    Macey Hogan was "a defenceless toddler" who was "robbed of a childhood that should have been filled with awe and wonder", children's charity the NSPCC said.

    “Instead of bringing this happiness into her daughter’s life, Cody-Anne Jackson ended it. It is only right that she has faced the full force of the law," a spokesperson said.

    The charity urged anyone with concerns about a child's safety to report them.

    A woman has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering her two-year-old daughter.

    Cody-Anne Jackson, 20, was on trial accused of killing her little girl, Macey Hogan, at her home in Packett Street in Fenton last year.

    But two weeks ago, mid-trial at Stafford Crown Court, she changed her plea to guilty.

    Jackson was told she would serve at least 16 years in prison.

    Macey's body was found on the floor in a bedroom after her mother dialled 999 on the morning of 10 October.

    Macey Hogan was smothered to death at the family home in Fenton, the trial heard.

    Jackson had penned a suicide note saying there was "nothing for me or Macey". The 20-year-old was found with superficial stab wounds to her chest, neck and wrist.

    Earlier this month, Stafford Crown Court was told Jackson was angry towards her daughter's father after their relationship broke down.

    The first store on Stafford's Kingsmead development will open next month.

    It follows months of speculation over the future of the development - after Morrisons pulled out last year.

    B&M Bargains will open on the 26 August followed by Aldi and Pets at Home.

    The company says the new store is a "welcomed boost to the local economy" and is creating more than 50 jobs.

  8. Driver sustains 'serious injuries' as lorry overturnspublished at 10:17 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A driver has suffered "serious injuries" following a crash with a lorry last night.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say they were called to Lodge Lane in Cheslyn Hay, Cannock at 19:51 yesterday.

    A lorry had overturned and a car had "substantial front end damage".

    The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was treated for a fractured leg, hip and pelvic injuries and taken to hospital.

    The lorry driver was also taken to hopsital and treated for cuts.

    Uttoxeter swimmer Adam Peaty says the support of his mum and his nan was what inspired him to win his second world championship medal in Budapest last night.

    Peaty won gold in the 50m breaststroke event just two days after winning the 100m.

    He's broken his own world record twice this week as well and says his success is down to the backing of his family.

    Police have launched an appeal to the public for their help in tracing a prisoner who absconded from HMP Sudbury about two months ago.

    Daniel Fenn-Dawkins was convicted of aggravated burglary in June 2015 and was sentenced to eight years and one month in prison.

    The 27-year-old - who absconded from the prison on May 26 - has links to the Derby area.

    A 48-year-old man is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of child sex offences in the Featherstone area.

    Officers were called to an address on Cannock Road just after 7:00 this morning following reports of a suspicious incident. No child was present.

    Police says a detailed investigation is now under way and are appealing for anyone with any information to step forward.

    A Cheshire policeman sustained minor injuries when his car was rammed during an operation near Nantwich yesterday.

    Officers stopped a car on the A51 after following it from the M6 when it failed to stop.

    Three men from Wolverhampton have been arrested on suspicion of offences including possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

    These CCTV images have been released, showing three three men the police want to speak to, after an attack on a 19-year-old man in Stoke-on-Trent.

    The victim was punched and kicked as he lay on the ground, and had to have two plates inserted to repair a broken jaw and treatment for broken ribs.

    BBC Radio Stoke can exclusively reveal that McDonalds wants to open a new restaurant in Stafford.

    The fast food chain has confirmed to BBC Radio stoke that it's looking to join Aldi, B & M Bargains and Pets at Home on the Kingsmead site.

    Talks with the council have begun and if approved, the company says it would create 65 full and part-time jobs.

    The town centre development has been empty after Morrisons pulled out of opening a new store last year.

    McDonalds, which already has two restaurants in the town, says it'll bring "significant investment" to the area.
