    Colin Nicholls from Framlingham emailed: Well done to Mr Hawes. We should hire him on Castle Meadow in Framlingham. Families picnic, kids play on there and it has dog mess on it most days!!! Most owners are responsible and clean up, but unfortunately it only takes a few to spoil it for everyone.

    Meanwhile Julia Hecht said: I don't think Andrew Hawes should be asking people nicely to clean up after their dogs. He should just publish their photos.

    It's been claimed today that the fishing industry along the east coast is on its last legs.

    The warning comes ahead of a visit to the region by a team of fishery experts from Seafish, external, a group whose aim is to improve efficiency and raise standards across the seafood industry.

    Fishermen Paul Lines represents the inshore boats in Lowestoft. He says the infrastructure at the port is really downtrodden: "It's like a good lot of other industries... they've been forgotten about but... we're still here, there's still 500 people actively employed with processing and selling fish in Lowestoft."

    Tomorrow will start dry with some sunny spells. Increasing cloud brings the chance of some showers in the afternoon, some of those could be thundery. Less breezy tomorrow with highs of 22C (72F).

    A legal high known as spice has become "an increasing problem" at Highpoint Prison near Newmarket, an Independent Monitoring Board report has said.

    Although the amount of cannabis resin and herbal cannabis found in 2014 dropped by 52% compared to the previous year, the report says there was a "disturbing" rise in cannabis substitute spice - up from 72.2g in 2013 to in excess of 1.5kg.

    It said staff at the prison, which has yet to comment, were being vigilant in preventing the drug getting to inmates, but a "reliable test" was required at Highpoint and elsewhere to stamp it out.

    In their second innings at Ipswich School, Bedfordshire, who needed 185 to win, reached 186 for 5 after 40.4 overs.

    The Sudbury charity shop Sue Ryder has hit back at the claims we heard earlier today that the town has too many charity shops.

    Sheree Parker, from Sue Ryder, said: "Sadly charity shops are an easy one to knock to say that we're taking empty buildings. You can look around in Sudbury and there's shops that are empty and are not being occupied by charity shops.

    "I can understand where people are coming from but I think they need to look at the bigger picture. People don't shop in towns probably as much because things are at your fingertips at home," she said.

    Chris Walker-Hebborn has come fifth in the final of the 100m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

    The 25-year-old, from Bury St Edmunds, finished in a time of 53.02. The race was won by Australia's Mitchell Larkin, in a time of 52.40.

    There's a warning that staff shortages could affect safety at a Suffolk jail as prison monitors say staffing levels at Highpoint, near Haverhill, have been at an all-time low.

    Staff at Highpoint are praised for their commitment and dedication by the Independent Monitoring Board, external, but the annual report says there are too few of them, with more than 50 unfilled posts.

    The board is "gravely concerned" that the staff shortage could become critical with more budget cuts, staff leaving and not being replaced and high sickness levels. The prison has yet to comment on the report.

    We brought you news earlier that a group of travellers have set up an encampment on land within St Edmundsbury that's covered by an injunction.

    The council was granted injunctions by the High Court on 25 November 2013 for two types of area:

    • Town centre car parks (Ram Meadow, St Andrew Street, Parkway Surface, Schoolyard East and West and Cattlemarket/Arc)

    • All Moreton Hall green space

    It means that any travellers who set up an encampment on these sites will be in contempt of court and may be sent to prison, fined or have their assets seized, and they can be immediately removed by the police.

    Angela Mcdermott posted: I have a dog and always clean up his mess and it sickens me that there are people out there that don't clear up their dogs' mess.

    Here's the man who's been hitting the headlines across the country and beyond because of his undercover approach to naming and shaming dog owners who allow their pets to foul public spaces.

    Andrew Hawes, from Leiston, who's been nicknamed the Turdinator because of his involvement in a local dog mess campaign, has now been interviewed by several BBC radio stations including the World Service, 5Live, and Three Counties.

    Actor Hugh Grant has tweeted, external calling him a "hero" (Hugh we're still waiting to get a further response from you), and Andrew features on the websites of the Daily Mail, external, the Express, the Metro, the London Evening Standard, external and Mashable, external.

    Earlier we reported that some businesses in Sudbury have claimed the town has too many charity shops - so I've taken a look at the numbers.

    There are 13 shops in the town, six of which are in North Street.

    That figure represents less than six per cent of what's called A1 retail space - prime retail space in the town as designated by planners.

  16. Travellers risk prison term by setting up camp in Bury St Edmundspublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 4 August 2015

    A group of travellers has arrived in Bury St Edmunds and set up an illegal camp on land on the Moreton Hall estate.

    A spokesman for St Edmundsbury Council said: "A group of about 10 caravans arrived at Heldhaw Road, Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds last night. The travellers have been made aware that the area is covered by an injunction, breach of which is contempt of court and carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison."

    The council has begun legal proceedings and the police are monitoring the encampment. The travellers say they plan to leave the site on Wednesday.

    Young unemployed people can now apply to take part in a BBC Make it Digital Traineeship, which will be available in around 60 towns and cities in England, including Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich.

    Up to 5,000 eight week opportunities are expected to be available over the next year for those aged between 16 and 24 with an interest in developing their digital skills.

    Suffolk brewer Adnams is reporting a rise in profits for the first half of the year, despite a drop of about 5% in the amount of its own beer being drunk.

    The brewer, based in Southwold, says the dip in beer volumes was most notably in sales to large managed pub companies. The £962,000 operating profit is up 12% on the same period last year.

    Although it sold three properties in the last six months, the company says it will maintain a strong property portfolio of pubs, but that the shape of its business is moving towards becoming a modern branded drinks company.

    There will be plenty of eyes on Jonathon Douglas this weekend as Ipswich Town prepare to face Brentford on the opening day of the new Championship season.

    Despite captaining the Bees to a play-off place earlier this year and scoring eight goals from 46 appearances, the 33-year-old midfielder was told he could move on in the summer.

    Today, Douglas, has agreed a one year deal at Ipswich with the option of a further 12 months. He is available for selection against his former club this weekend.
