    Bess (left) and Jayna Cavendish will appear on the Lake Stage at Latitude tomorrow with their band AYA, having been chosen to play at the festival by BBC Introducing in Suffolk.

    Bess said: "Being from Suffolk, we have always wanted to play Latitude. It is such a cute stage and we can't wait to connect with the crowd."

    The jury in the case of an optometrist charged with manslaughter through gross negligence, after the death of an eight-year-old boy, has gone home for the day.

    Vincent Barker died after a build-up of fluid on the brain, five months after a routine eye examination.

    Honey Rose, 35, who denies the charge, examined the boy when she was working at a branch of Boots in Ipswich as a locum.

    The jury will return to resume deliberations at 10:00 tomorrow.

    The 27-year-old former Norwich City player was linked to the Blues at the weekend, having played under McCarthy in the past.

    "I've openly said that I need some wide players so I guess everybody's going to put two and two together and get five. I had Elliott at Wolves and I like him," he said.

    The 18-year-old has been a star performer for Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the National League recently and feels he's ready to make the step up.

    "I think that's what I need to progress, I need to be riding with these guys regularly," said Mountain. "I need to go out and do the best I can, enjoy the experience, and hopefully make something of it."

  8. Ipswich Cornhill consultation: Responses in first few hours 'into hundreds'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Online responses to proposals for changes to the Cornhill in Ipswich topped 350 overnight, described as a "positive sign" by the borough council.

    The consultation began online yesterday and the first event in the town hall takes place this afternoon. 

    A "fly-through" animation below shows a number of options for the £3m-plus proposals, which will be funded by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk County Council.

    A spokesman said: "I think it's a good sign. We're certainly very pleased people are showing as much interest and we would encourage people to go online to do more, external.

    "We're still sifting through buy early indications show that people are being very supportive. Love it or not, we want people to have their say," he said.

    The pair came on at half-time as manager Mick McCarthy once again made 11 changes at the break.

    "Dozza's a good player and I thought James Blanchfield was very good as well in the second half. I also thought Cameron Stewart played well; his delivery from free-kicks and corners was excellent," said McCarthy.

    Police say they are treating a fire in Haverhill this morning as "suspicious".

    Officers were contacted by the fire service just after 08:25 to reports of the fire at a home in Abington Place. A short time later it was confirmed that everyone was out of the property but that the fire was thought to be suspicious.

    Police and fire officers are currently liaising and an investigation has started into the cause of the blaze.

    A letter has been sent footballers from Cambridge United, external asking them to take part in a fundraising event for two players who were seriously injured in a crash in Newmarket. 

    Shaun Whiter, who plays for Newmarket Town, had both legs amputated following the collision on 1 July. He friend Joey Abbs (pictured), who plays for Soham Town, was also seriously injured.

    The letters says "as members of the local 'football family' we are sure that everyone wants to help these two men and their families in some way."

    They're hoping to involve teams like Cambridge City, Soham Town Rangers, Newmarket Town and Fulbourn in the match to be played at the end of August or the beginning of September.

    The jury at Ipswich Crown Court in the case of an optometrist charged with manslaughter by gross negligence after the death of an eight-year-old boy has retired to consider its verdict.

    Vincent Barker died in July 2012 after a build-up of fluid in his brain. 

    Five months earlier he had attended a routine eye test at a branch of Boots in Ipswich where the defendant,Honey Rose, 35, examined him. 

    The prosecution claim the defendant failed to notice "obvious abnormalities" in the boy's eyes that would have led to him being urgently referred for further investigation and that his death could have been prevented had the defendant done her job properly.

    Ms Rose denies the charge.

    We brought you news earlier of a fire in Haverhill in which the fire service had to rescue a person.

    The man was treated by the ambulance service for smoke inhalation.

    Fire service group commander Paul Goodman said: "As soon as we got here there was a gentleman in an upper floor window.

    "Once he was rescued he was passed over to the ambulance service who were also quickly on [the] scene. He was treated for mild smoke inhalation but he seems to be fine."

    "I didn't think there was much in the first half and I thought we were considerably the better team in the second half, strangely enough."
