    Bury St Edmunds, external director of rugby Gavin Hogg was delighted with his side's first half performance in Saturday's 39-15 win over London Irish WG, external.

    "It's probably the most impressive 40 minutes of rugby we've put together this season," said Hogg. 

    "From a game management point of view, we played a lot of good rugby in the right areas of the pitch and made a lot of good decisions."

    The victory moves the Suffolk side up to sixth place in the National League Two table.

  2. Search team admit they've got 'absolutely nothing to go on'published at 12:10 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    The chairman of the Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue, external team said they've been out "pretty much every day since last Tuesday" looking for Corrie Mckeague, and adds "we're out again today, around the Mildenhall area later on".

    But Andy King admitted: "We've got absolutely nothing to go on."

    He explained: "We’ve searched all of the roads, and all of the footpaths pretty much that we would consider to be a reasonable and non-reasonable route home for him... it's a massive area."

  3. FA Cup: Leiston travel to Westfieldspublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Ryman Premier Division leaders Leiston, external have been drawn away to Westfields, external in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup.

    The tie will be played in Hereford on Saturday, 15 October with the winners going through to the first round proper.

    Glen Driver's Suffolk side won 4-1 at Hungerford Town on Saturday.

  4. Fundraising campaign to support team searching for Corrie Mckeaguepublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    A fundraising page has been set up to raise £2,000 to assist the Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue, external (SULSAR) team which is involved in the hunt for Corrie Mckeague.

    It's been set up by Lizzie Best, who said: "We don't know how long this search may have to continue, so please share as much as possible and show your support."

    Chairman of SULSAR, Andy King, said their operation was all "self-funded", adding that the page was set up to "help us out with funding of equipment that just makes searching that slightly bit easier and more effective".

  5. Images of clothes worn by missing serviceman releasedpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Images of the exact clothing believed to have been worn by RAF Honington serviceman Corrie Mckeague at the time of his disappearance more than a week ago, have been released by Suffolk Police.

  6. Data shows missing Corrie's phone moved from Bury to Barton Millspublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Analysis of data from Corrie Mckeague's mobile phone shows it moved between Bury St Edmunds and Barton Mills on the morning of his disappearance. 

    However, it didn't move after it reached the Barton Mills area, and hasn't been used since, nor has it been found.

    Police say they're looking at what happened, but are exploring the possibility that the phone may have been lost or discarded, as the timings of the movement have been found to coincide with that of a bin lorry that is known to have travelled between the locations at the time. 

    The bin lorry has been seized for examination.

  7. Possible sighting in Mildenhall of missing servicemanpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Police are following up on a reported sighting of missing serviceman Corrie Mckeague in Mildenhall.

    They say information received over the past week leads them to believe he may have been in the Mildenhall area at some point between 04:30 and 08:00 on Saturday, 24 September.

    They want to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching Corrie's description in the area at around that time.

    The last confirmed sighting was earlier, at 03:20 on Brentgovel Street in Bury St Edmunds.

    Checks were carried out by police on Friday night just gone, into Saturday morning.

  8. Hardwick Airfield: Built for World War Two bomber crewspublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Situated in Norfolk between Long Stratton and Bungay, Hardwick airfield was one of the early heavy bomber airfields, external which were constructed for the RAF in 1941-42 during World War Two.

    It was assigned to the United States Air Force, and designated as Station 104. From early November 1943 through to June 1945, the Hardwick base served as headquarters for the 20th Combat Bombardment Wing of the 2nd Bomb Division.

    Originally, 30 hardstands were planned for the airfield - sufficient for the RAF's needs. These were increased to 50 for the USAF.

    After victory in Europe, the field was turned over to the RAF on 25 June 1945. It eventually closed in 1962. 

    The airfield has several Open Days throughout the year. Their website shows the next scheduled one is 16 October.

    Nik Coleman, who is acting as a media spokesman for the Hammond family, said he will be answering questions at the aeroplane crash site at Hardwick airfield in Norfolk at 11:00.

    On his Facebook page, external he said of the pilot: "Maurice has had a satisfactory night at NNUH [Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital], and his condition is stable and under constant assessment.

    "All of your best wishes have been passed on.

    "The family are overwhelmed by your support and we ask you to keep all involved in your thoughts."

    Maurice Hammond, the pilot who was injured when his Mustang aircraft crashed at a south Norfolk airfield yesterday, was a member of the Hardwick Warbirds.

    Willie Cruickshank, who flies for the Wildcat Aerobatics team in Old Buckenham near Norwich, said he had displayed at a number of air shows alongside the Warbirds team.

    Mr Cruickshank, who recently featured in the BBC programme Skies Above Britain, says Mr Hammond is "a very experienced pilot - a fantastic pilot" and the P-51 Mustang "in Maurice's hands is a wonderful aircraft".

    He says he's never flown the USAF World War Two fighter plane, but "would give his right arm" to do so.

    An air accident investigation team from Farnborough will remove the plane, and - says Mr Cruickshank - they'll examine every bit of it, to determine the cause of the accident. 

    He says the full report, which will be very detailed, should come out within six months to a year. 

  12. Crash pilot is widely respected, says local aviation expertpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    A Suffolk pilot, who was seriously injured in a vintage plane crash yesterday, is widely respected, according to a local aviation expert.

    Maurice Hammond is being treated at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, following the crash, in which a man in his 80s died.

    Roger Smith, from the Lowestoft Aviation Society, external, described Mr Hammond as "a very likeable chap", saying that "a lot of pilots who fly warbirds, external think he's a really good display pilot with the Mustang".

    Mr Smith added that the aircraft which crashed yesterday has been seen in the past at the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, external, and had been seen over Bentwaters and Oulton Broad just before it crashed."

  14. Aircrash pilot 'sedated and stable'published at 08:49 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    A close friend of the pilot who was injured in the Hardwick aircrash says Maurice Hammond is "stable and being cared for at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital".

    Nik Coleman, who's known Mr Hammond for 15 years, has posted on his Facebook page, external that Mr Hammond is "sedated to aid his recovery" and all his family have been able to see him.

    The family has asked for their privacy to be respected, but "are very grateful at the outpouring of support".

    Mr Coleman says the family's thoughts and condolences are with the the family of the passenger, who died in the crash. 

  15. Pilot remains in critical condition after crash that killed passengerpublished at 08:30 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Access to Hardwick airfield has been closed following the plane crash at Hardwick airfield yesterday afternoon, in which one man died and another was critically injured. 

    Emergency services were called to the airfield, close to the Norfolk/Suffolk border, site shortly after 15:30 yesterday.  

    The pilot of the P-51 Mustang - named locally as Maurice Hammond -  was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in a critical condition. His passenger, a man in his 80s, died at the scene.

    Air accident investigators are sending a team to the airfield. The site is accessed by one road, Barondale Lane, which remains closed.

    Our reporter Wally Webb, who's at the southern end of the old runway, says the crash took place at the nothern end of the airfield, in a farming area.

    Ipswich Witches, external manager Ritchie Hawkins was delighted with the way his team went about their business in Friday's meeting at Edinburgh Monarchs.

    Although the Suffolk side lost 53-37 on the night it was enough to see them through to the play-off semi-finals after their 26-point victory at Foxhall in the first leg.

    "It was a professional performance on a tricky night led by Danny (King) who was superb really," said Hawkins. 

    "They started better which I think boosted their morale but when we needed to we stepped it up another level. I always thought we had a lot more left in the tank and we used it when we needed to."
