New figures show that Suffolk has the eighth highest number of reported rapes per head of population.
The figures here are worse than for Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and Essex.
In Suffolk, 547 rapes were reported in the last twelve months - up from from 247 in 2010-11.
It amounts to more than 10 a week.
In the same period there were 30 prosecutions and 11 convictions.
Despite the rise, Suffolk Police has told the BBC they think the number of rapes reported is just a fraction of the offences committed.
The force has put extra support into rape investigation teams, but they say the impact of that will take time to filter through.

A woman who complained about a shop sign in Ipswich says the "underlying connotations" of the message are "really unwelcoming".
The £ Shop in Ipswich said two people had complained about its sign stating it is the "only British owned pound shop in Ipswich".
Vicky Brett, who complained about the sign, said: "It's positioned near Norwich Road, a great street full of cafes and shops that bring together all the great cultures in Ipswich.
"This breaks my heart. People will see this sign and think that these are the implied views of the people in Ipswich.
"I want people of different nationalities to know that there are people upset about the sign.
"Hopefully the owner of the shop will eventually see how hurtful for the town this sign is on so many levels and take it down."

The owner of a shop which has received complaints about a sign stating it is the "only British owned pound shop in Ipswich" says he is "not in the business of upsetting people".
Dennis Davis said the sign was intended to highlight that his business was independent, and that money he made would "go back into Britain's economy through taxes".
"It's got nothing to do with racism," he said. "If I was selling British beef I'd have a sign saying 'British Beef' on it.
"Has anyone gone into a Polish shop and complained? No, and why would they?"
Mr Davis said he rented part of his building to Romanians, who run a cafe.
"If I'm really causing offence, I'll take the sign down," he said.
