    Teenagers Kundai Benyu (pictured), Andre Dozzell and Adam McDonnell are all expected to start for Ipswich Town's, external Under-23s at Bristol City this afternoon.

    Gerard Nash's Ipswich side will be aiming for their fourth win in five matches, after last week's 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace.

    Despite making good progress from his ankle injury, striker Brett Pitman won't be involved, although he's still hoping to be fit for Saturday's trip to, coincidentally, Bristol City in the Championship.

    "There's just a few puddles, a few inches deep - it should be a metre and a half of water [nearly five feet], and there's nothing."

    That's the observation of the chairman of Sudbury Rowing Club, external, on the day the Environment Agency is due to send divers into the River Stour to free a sluice gate that's become jammed.

    Mike Arnott continued: "We’re stuck - there's about a hundred yards between us and the main river and we obviously can't get out there. 

    "The silt at the bottom of the cut here is two to three feet deep. 

    "When the chaps from the Environment Agency, external were wading around trying to get the fish out, they were in over their knees - they were wearing dry suits but they were in over their knees in silt and mud so there's no way we can get our boats out.

    "Hopefully the Environment Agency will fix the problem, and the river can start to fill up again."

    Every club could do with a Luke Varney, according to the striker's boss at Ipswich Town, external, Mick McCarthy.

    McCarthy was full of praise for the 34-year-old after he capped his first start of the season with a goal in Saturday's 3-0 win over QPR.

    Varney's short term contract at Portman Road runs out in January, with plans afoot to extend it.

    "I love him to bits," said McCarthy. "As a personality around the place, even when he was injured with his achilles, he was brilliant. 

    "He's a positive force and I'm delighted to have him back fit and if he continues to be fit and plays like that we can do something with him for the rest of the season."

    A man arrested at the weekend on suspicion of attempted murder, has been bailed in connection with the incident, which took place in Ipswich last week.

    The 28-year-old, who is from the town, was arrested in Norwich on Saturday.

    Police, who had received reports in the early hours of Tuesday, 22 November that an 18-year-old had gone to Ipswich Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, say the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

    Inquiries about the incident, which occurred in Siloam Place (pictured), continue.

  5. X Factor star announces Thetford datepublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    Olly Murs, who recently topped the album charts with his latest release, 24 Hrs, is to play in Thetford Forest.

    The solo artist from Witham in Essex, who shot to fame in The X Factor in 2009 , will perform outside at the Forestry Commission, external visitor centre at Santon Downham on Friday, 30 June.

    Tickets for the concert go on sale at 09:00 on Friday, 2 December. 

    Rick Astley is also playing Thetford Forest on Saturday, 1 July.

    There'll be two Suffolk clubs in today's draw for the first round proper of the FA Trophy, external.

    AFC Sudbury, external won 3-1 at King's Langley on Saturday, while Leiston, external have a replay at Eastbourne Borough tomorrow after they drew 1-1 at Victory Road.

    The draw is expected to take place about midday.

    Bury St Edmunds, external failed to secure their fourth straight victory as they suffered a narrow defeat at Cinderford on Saturday.

    The match finished 29-26 in the home team's favour, but Bury at least came away with a couple of bonus points.

    Ipswich, external manager Mick McCarthy proved a few doubters wrong as Town cruised to a 3-0 victory over QPR on Saturday.

    Experienced campaigners Jonathan Douglas and Luke Varney were surprise inclusions in the Blues line-up as McCarthy beefed up the spine of his side.  

    "Very pleased, first half we get the goal and then we've been very disciplined. We didn't get played through and they weren't keeping the ball with their 3-5-2 shape," he said.

    "We managed that really well today because of the players we had in our team."

    We brought you a photograph of a queue in Bury St Edmunds yesterday afternoon - if you haven't guessed, it was people trying to withdraw cash.

    Mel, who lives in Ingham, said she ended up doing a foreign exchange deal with some tourists.

    She explained: "I was in a pub that doesn't take card payments. 

    "Some Americans walked in, ordered a drink, realised they couldn't pay with a card, and said 'we'll just go and get some money out of the cash machine' to which we said 'sorry, but most of them have run out of money'."

    Mel offered to swap their dollars for sterling, and says they were "only too happy" to do that. 

    "A lot of cash machines were out of money on Saturday evening... the same thing happened last year, it's not a new thing."

    A 28-year-old man is being questioned by police on suspicion of attempted murder.

    The man, from Ipswich, was arrested by firearms officers at an address in Magpie Road, Norwich on Saturday, 26 November.

    It's after an 18-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder in Ipswich, in the early hours of Tuesday, 22 November. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
