  1. Sex worker says she 'would take' help if it was offeredpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

While BBC East's Kevin Burch was speaking to 38--year-old sex worker Sophie, he asked her whether she would take help with her addictions, if it was offered.

Admitting she was still on drugs and drink, she said: "I would take it, yeah, yeah, I'd take it. I didn't take it at the time, I was naive and stupid [but] I need it now."

Sophie also explained why she chose to speak out: "I thought I need to say something, because someone said to me 'something's going to happen'... something to do with the working girls, and I thought 'yeah, I need to say something."

Sophie, 33, explained that until about three months ago, she hadn't worked on the streets for nearly 10 years.

She said: "I was on the smack from the age of 16... I was an alcoholic, I am now. I was a heroin addict, a crack addict.

"I'm not going to lie, I'm a drug addict, I was scoring [when] I bumped into you, and it is what it is.

"I was clean for nearly nine years, I lost my dad two years ago, he was a heroin addict, so what am I going to do?"

  3. Sex worker says she has returned to streets of Ipswichpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2016

    Kevin Burch
    BBC Look East

A woman who approached us last night while BBC Look East were broadcasting from London Road in Ipswich, has told me that police know she's on the streets as a sex worker.

Ten years on from the murders of five women who worked as prostitutes in the London Road/Sir Alf Ramsey Way area, the police and other agencies had claimed a strategy to end street prostitution had been working and they were not getting reports of kerb crawlers or women plying their trade.

    Sophie

However, Sophie, a 38-year-old, said: "There's me and there's another girl that works the street, I can't say her name.

"I work every night from quarter to nine.

"If the police approach me I'll say I'm just having a conversation with someone, but obviously they know what I'm doing.

"Last night [Tuesday] they said to me 'we're just looking out for you' - they know that I'm selling myself, of course I'm selling myself."

  18. More cash proposed for Suffolk schoolspublished at 18:02 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

    Andrew Sinclair
    BBC Look East political correspondent

The govenment has unveiled plans that could see schools in Suffolk getting an extra £8m a year in funding.

It's part of an attempt to come up with a fairer system that would see every pupil receiving the same amount of funding, regardless of where they live.

Campaigners have argued for some time that Suffolk has lost out to other parts of the country and the proposed increase in funding is one of the largest in the country.

According to the government's estimates, the total amount going to schools in Suffolk would rise from £437m a year to £445m.

Education Secretary Justine Greening also pledged to protect funding for rural schools.

But Labour says the extra money on offer is less than people were expecting.

The proposals will now go to consultation and could be implemented in 2018/19.

    BBC Local Live

More now on the missing golden eagle, Stan, who disappeared on Friday from his home in Hemingstone.

It has emerged that Stan has a girlfriend called Ailsa, who is also five years old.

    Here she is...

    Golden eagle Ailsa

Owner Kris Ford hopes they might become parents in future years, although he tells me golden eagles tend to start breeding once they are about eight or nine.

If you think you've seen Stan, the advice is not to approach him, as he might be intimidated by a stranger. Instead, call the non-emergency police number 101, quoting 408/ 9th December.
