    More than 450 people attended a meeting last night to discuss a proposed rise in beach hut fees in Felixstowe.

    The Felixstowe Beach Hut and Chalet Association, external discussed proposals by Suffolk Coastal council, external to bring in a 10% increase in beach hut fees for eight years, as well as a £7,000 charge on lease agreements from April.

    Chair of the association Joanne Woodward said the turn-out demonstrated it was a "hugely emotive subject and people are very unhappy" about the proposals.

    She added: "We are going to be very active in our campaign over the next few weeks to raise people's attention.

    "It seriously threatens to decimate the population of beach huts but until we know what the next draft proposal will be it's very difficult for us to (know what to) do other than raise people's awareness."

    A public consultation, external runs until 17 February.

    Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the A12, which has closed the road in both directions near Wangford.

    Police say they were called just before 10:30 to reports of a two-vehicle collision.

    Local diversions are being put in place, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

    There's a call for a priority road scheme to be put in place on the A140 at the junction leading to the Eye industrial estate.

    It comes from the Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP Dan Poulter, who says he's been contacted by many businesses who have trouble getting into and out of the estate.

    He says pressure should be applied to get funding for improvements.

    "It's not just dangerous, it's interfering with the free-flow of traffic in and out of Eye, and also along the A140," he said.

    "There's a real opportunity now with the additional development that may be taking place in the Eye area, to get something back for the local area, and get some money from the developers to put into road improvements."

    The majority of local people support a two-village bypass as part of plans for Sizewell C, according to the results of a Farnham with Stratford St Andrew Parish Council questionnaire.

    Debbi Tayler, parish council clerk, says although the majority of people have said they would prefer a two-village bypass, for some people that is not a good option.

    "Near the church there is an estate of 14 or 15 properties, around what was the old Farnham Hall and Farnham Manor.

    "A new road would come much closer to them."

    The questionnaire is in response to the options being put forward for the villages by EDF Energy in its consultation on Sizewell C, external.

    The BBC Suffolk poll on Twitter saw 81% of 549 votes saying McCarthy should leave Portman Road, while the Ipswich Star, external and East Anglian Times say 75% of the 2,500 people who took part in their vote want him to be replaced.

    Brad Jones, editor of the Ipswich Star, said: "It was one of the biggest responses we've had to any poll we've done on the website. It wasn't just the result on Tuesday night that was so humiliating, it was the performance as well.

    "I think the fans have seen too many of those types of performances this season and people are fed up, and want to be entertained.

    "At the moment it feels like we're stagnating and it's not enjoyable to go watch most of the games."

    Yesterday, Ipswich Town's managing director Ian Milne called for fans to stick by McCarthy and the players.

    The 80-year-old was part of the last Blues side to lose to non-league opposition, when they went down 3-2 to Peterborough United in 1960.

    "It's awful," said Crawford. "You are walking off after being beaten by a non-league side, and no disrespect to them, because they've got some good players, but you do feel downhearted and it knocks you down for a couple of weeks."

    It's almost three years since he last played in English football's second tier, but Ipswich Town's, external new striker Kieffer Moore believes he'll have no problem adapting to life at a higher level.

    The 24-year-old former Yeovil man joined the Blues last weekend after playing for Forest Green Rovers in the National League.

    "I just needed to go to a club where I could establish myself and get the games again and get some goals. I feel I did that and am very thankful for this opportunity back in the Championship. 

    "The training is a lot more intense here, maybe I'll need a little bit of time for that. But other than that my mindset is ready and feel I am ready for this."

    There's a north/south split in today's forecast. 

    It's cloudy in the north, and also a bit milder, and cold and frosty in the south but this is where we should see the best of the sunshine throughout the course of the day. 

    Towards parts of Northampton, Bedford and Norwich we're starting above freezing, and there's plenty of cloud here, perhaps a few spots of drizzle, but generally dry just about everywhere. 

    Towards the south we've got lots of sunshine around.
