  1. Stand-off now in its third day in Crowfieldpublished at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Away from football, armed police remain in the village of Crowfield, near Ipswich, this morning.

It's more than 36 hours now since officers were first called to Stone Street because of concerns about the welfare of a man at a house.

    Scene at Crowfield

The road at the junction with Ipswich Road stretching to Coddenham is still shut to through traffic.

Police say no-one else is involved in the incident, and won't confirm if the man has a weapon.

  2. Ipswich Town FA Cup defeat: 'Enough is enough' says fanpublished at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Football fan Ian Wright, from Woodbridge has emailed us to vent his feelings about Ipswich Town's FA Cup Third Round defeat.

He wrote: "I am a season ticket holder for many years at Portman Road I will not go again until [Mick] McCarthy is removed.

"Just look at Terry Butcher's face and listen to his comments - enough is enough.

"I would also like to point out Mr Milne doesn't have to pay £500 a season to watch the rubbish we are served up with week in week out.

"McCarthy should do the right thing and walk away."

  3. Ipswich Town FA Cup defeat: Analysis from TWTD's Phil Hampublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

It’s difficult to recall a worse result in the club’s recent history, and it wasn’t just the defeat it was its manner.

Usually in these cup shocks the team from a lower league grabs a goal against the run of play and clings on desperately but Lincoln were the better side in both games.

Whether they’re the leaders of the National League or not, that shouldn’t happen to a Championship side.

Where does that leave Mick McCarthy? What appeared to be a significant majority of fans already wanted him to go before last night and plenty more will now have joined the "out" camp.

I would guess Marcus Evans won’t be in any hurry to make a change, particularly only 13 days away from the transfer window closing, having shown patience with previous managers who had comparatively worse records at Town.

But ultimately it’s difficult for a manager to hang on for too long when such a large proportion of fans no longer believe he is the man for the job.

As we have seen with recent attendances - and may well see with season ticket renewals - they are voting with their feet. That’s not a healthy situation for any club and one which can’t continue indefinitely.

  4. Ian Milne 'detached from reality'published at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

There's been a strong reaction to comments made by Ipswich Town's managing director Ian Milne, who has called for fans to "stay by Mick and the boys".

Commenting on Twitter, external, @TimmR7 said Mr Milne was "detached from reality", while @MK_FRugby told him he'd stick by the manager "if you truly back him and buy some decent players".

"Evans and yourself ARE the main problem," he added.

@muccletonjoe posted: "I think most Town fans have stuck with Mick because he saved us from relegation. To ask us to support him now is just not on."

But, despite the majority of voices expressing their lack of support for the Town boss, Russell Ward, chairman of Bury Town FC, said: "I will definitely be in a minority, but I agree. Something is wrong but I believe he will fix it."

  6. Ipswich Town: Where are we now?published at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

"It is worth taking a moment to reflect just how poor Marcus Evans’s time at this club has been. In nine years, we have finished in the top six once and made a serious challenge for the play-offs once, that is one lasting until the very end of the season, and that was already underway when Evans arrived."

There's a good blog post on twtd.co.uk, external, examining where last night's FA Cup exit leaves Ipswich Town.

  7. Ipswich managing director asks fans to 'stay with Mick'published at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Ipswich Town's managing director Ian Milne has asked fans to stand by manager Mick McCarthy.

In a statement, he said: "Over the two matches Lincoln City were clearly the better organised team. That resulted in them deserving to win and we should, and have, congratulated them.

"We clearly did not perform to the standard we can do and an example of that is the good win we got against Blackburn last Saturday. However, nobody in the squad takes any pleasure in producing that type of football in front of our great away fans or indeed to the wider television audience.

"As usual Mick had been honest in his after match comments and I have nothing to add to that regarding the game.

"I would add that over the last few days we have added players to the squad and we have bids in for others.

"So in these difficult times we would ask our fans to stay with Mick and the boys as we make improvements to the squad and get our injured players match fit, as our aim is to return to winning entertaining football as we started to do against Blackburn."

  8. Tom Lawrence apologises for part in goalpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Tom Lawrence, the on-loan player who has been a shining light for Ipswich in recent weeks, apologised to manager Mick McCarthy after Lincoln pounced on his poorly struck free-kick and launched a counter-attack which resulted in the winning goal.

"He came and apologised," McCarthy said. "I said that's all well and good, Tom, it was a bad ball from him but it still shouldn't end up in our net.

"I'm not blaming Tom at all."

  10. Lincoln match 'an awful advert for Ipswich'published at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Elvin King, who has spent 40 years watching Ipswich Town and has reported for the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times, says it would be "perfectly understandable" if Ipswich owner Marcus Evans decided it was time for a change.

"I've had 40 years watching Ipswich Town and was lucky to see an era we had so much success, and you have to feel for the younger supporters because they're being treated to some dire football," he told Mark Murphy.

"Yesterday's game was an awful advert for Ipswich Town as a football club... and an awful advert for the town itself.

"I can see if Evans does step in, and says 'yes he's going to go', that would be perfectly understandable. We've just got to keep our fingers crossed then that he brings in somebody that can turn it around, because we desperately need that."

  13. Was it just a bad dream?published at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

Afraid not... here's a recap of what happened:

  14. Terry Butcher 'embarrassed' by Ipswich performancepublished at 08:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Cleah Hetherington
    BBC Radio Suffolk

Former Ipswich defender Terry Butcher, who won the UEFA Cup with the club, said last night's performance was an "utter disgrace".

"I can't remember ever being so embarrassed and humiliated as an Ipswich fan," he said.

"Ipswich lost the wrong way, not enough fight, not enough passion."

The defeat means Ipswich Town have never progressed beyond the third round of the FA Cup while Mick McCarthy has been in charge.

  15. Mick McCarthy won't 'complain' about fans' criticismpublished at 08:18 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Cleah Hetherington
    BBC Radio Suffolk

Mick McCarthy admitted supporters had good reason to be fed up after last night's 1-0 defeat at Lincoln, and refused to turn on them.

"I've had wonderful support from the fans," he said. "I'm not going to complain about them, they want to see better than that.

"That was disappointing for all of us and even more so for those guys who have travelled up, paid their money and come and watched a dreadful performance."

    BBC Look East weather

Today is going to be cold, bright and frosty across most areas to start, but possibly a little cloudier towards the north.

Remaining sunny and dry with light winds throughout the day, but it will feel cold when out and about.

Maximum temperature: 5C (41F). BBC Weather has more.

  17. Ipswich Town humiliated by non-league Lincolnpublished at 08:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Cleah Hetherington
    BBC Radio Suffolk

Ipswich Town's season plunged to a new low last night as the Blues went out of the FA Cup to non-league side Lincoln City.

A goal in the 90th minute from Nathan Arnold meant it was the Imps who progressed to round four of the cup after the replay at Sincil Bank.

Town boss Mick McCarthy described the result as the worst he's ever had as a football manager and conceded that calls from supporters for him to be sacked will only become more vocal.

He said: "If the club want to sack me then so be it.  The fans are that sick of me, then that makes life difficult for me at every game all of a sudden.

"When we win it's OK, when we're losing it's 'I'm getting sacked in the morning' - so there's nothing between."

  18. Very cold, but temperature can't be as low as it is at Ipswich Townpublished at 08:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Kate Williams
    BBC Local Live

Morning all, and welcome to Wednesday.

It's cold this morning, as you can see by the picture below.

But I bet the low temperature of -4C outside isn't anywhere as near low as things might be at Ipswich Town.

Mick McCarthy is getting a frosty reception from Town fans today after non-league Lincoln City beat them to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 41 years.
