    Preston striker Jordan Hugill says he will not let speculation over his future detract from his work on the pitch.

    The 24-year-old has been the subject of a £1.5m bid from Ipswich, which was rejected by North End.

    The two sides are due to meet at Deepdale on Saturday.

  5. Emergency services at scene of serious collision in Newmarketpublished at 09:01 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

    Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision in Newmarket.

    Police were called at 06:35 to reports of a collision between a car and a bicycle on the A1304 Barbara Stradbroke Avenue.

    The road is currently closed between the roundabout junction with the A1303 and Hamilton Road.

    As a result, there's no access into the west side of of Newmarket from the A14 at Junction 36, and traffic will have to enter the town via the A142 at J37.

    Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

    Councillors are expected to vote to dip into their reserves to help plug a budget gap of nearly £40m when they meet later.

    The cabinet at Suffolk County Council  is also expected to agree to increase part of the council tax to specifically fund adult social care, although the authority claims it will be the seventh successive year that council tax has been frozen, as the adult social care increase, external is a separate precept.

    The authority has £49m of reserves, from which it is expected to take around £8.5m, mainly to support services for vulnerable young people.

    There are still huge savings to be made, though: more than £31m across a number of services.

    While the cabinet, external will discuss the measures today, they won't be voted on until the full council meets on 9 February next month.

    There's slow traffic westbound on the A14 in Nacton between J57 (A1189 Nacton Interchange) and J56 (A137 Wherstead) because of a collision.

    As you can see from this photo taken on the Orwell Bridge, it's causing delays in the area:

    I don't know about you, but for me it certainly was a "good" morning, as I didn't have to scrape the windscreen before I started my journey to work.

    My colleagues and I are raring to go to keep you updated about what's happening across the county, so we hope you'll stay with us too.

    Having had a quick look round, it appears that council finances and dogs on beaches are the early stories, but as ever, we'll start the day by finding out what the weather's got in store for us - Kate Kinsella will be with us next.

    It's been confirmed that the trial of a man accused of a double murder will take place at Ipswich Crown Court next month.

    Ali Qasimaj (pronounced Shazamay) denies killing 69-year-Sylvia Stuart and her husband Peter Stuart, 75. 

    Mr Stuart's body was discovered in woodland near their home at Weybread near Eye in June last year. 

    Mrs Stuart's body has not been found. 

    At a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court today, it was confirmed the trial will begin on 7 February.

    A largely dry night with some clear spells and a widespread frost across the BBC East region.

    A yellow warning has also been issued by the Met Office, external for areas of dense and possibly freezing fog, leading to difficult travelling conditions by road and air. 

    Temperatures under clear skies falling below freezing, perhaps as low as -5C (23F).

    Tomorrow the fog could linger through the day, but there will be areas where it lifts and we could eventually see some brightness and sunshine developing. 

    There’ll be light south to south-westerly winds and highs of around 6C (43F). 

    Where the fog lingers temperatures may struggle to get above freezing.

    The John Peel Centre, external in Stowmarket is gearing up for seven consecutive nights of live music, to mark Independent Venue Week, external, which begins today.

    Sheila Ravenscroft, John Peel's widow (pictured with George Monger, father of Tom Moth, external who appears on Tuesday), said: "We’ve tried to vary it so we're not asking the same people to come every night.

    "So there's some rock bands, there's some folk, there's an electronica night.

    "We've tried to spread it across various types of music.

    "It's the first time we've ever been able to do this so we're quite excited about it."
