  1. CCTV shows Hadleigh ram-raidpublished at 11:56 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    CCTV pictures have been released showing the moment a garage in Lady Lane, Hadleigh, was targeted by ram-raiders.

    The break-in took place just after 02:00 and it's said that money and cigarettes were taken.

    In the first picture the offenders can be seen trying to open the cigarette cabinet, which has been locked overnight.

    In the second, the duo have managed to break in, and in the third, they can be seen removing the cigarettes from the cabinet.

  2. Two service station ram-raids overnightpublished at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Police were called to two service stations in the county, within 40 minutes of each other, in the early hours of this morning after both were ram-raided. 

    A vehicle was used to enter the Lady Lane garage in Hadleigh, and cigarettes and money were taken.

    Meanwhile, on Church Street in Woolpit, cigarettes, alcohol and a cash register were stolen. 

    Suffolk Police says it's in the early stages of the investigation and is looking at the possibility both break-ins are connected. 

    It's also investigating a break-in at a café at Bypass nurseries, in Capel St Mary, just after midnight, where money was taken.

  3. Future of retail park discussedpublished at 10:54 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Ipswich Borough councillors will discuss the future of one of the town's retail parks today.

    Anglia Retail Park, opposite the Whitehouse Industrial Estate and an Asda supermarket, has seen more businesses leave than open in recent years. 

    But today Ipswich Borough's planning committee will discuss applications for the site, which could see Dunelm Mill, The Range, and Go Outdoors opening there later on this year.

    Part of the former B&Q site has already been taken over by a trampoline park company, called Bounce, with plans to open soon. 

    The retail park, which was given initial planning permission back in 1998 has never been completely full.

    The county's newest professional sports team looks likely to return to the Ipswich Corn Exchange next season.

    Suffolk Saxons, external finished fifth in their debut campaign in the National Badminton League.

    "We very much hope so, we'll have discussions with the guys at the Corn Exchange, who've backed us brilliantly this season," said chairman Richard Hunt.

    "He had an aspiration when we kicked this off that we wanted to get around the county so there are options to do that, but as a venue that creates the right atmosphere, this place is great, we love it."

    More than £22m has been paid out to informants by UK police forces over the past five years, according to figures obtained by BBC Radio 5 live. 

    In Suffolk £236,613 was paid to informants in that period.

    Retired Met Police detective Colin Sutton, who now lives near Eye, said: "Payments to informants is something that's gone on for many years, and it's not always huge sums of money. 

    "Sometimes in terms of volume crime, the payments can be very low, less that £100."

    A woman who died in a two-car crash has been named.

    Katie Bent, from Bardwell, was driving towards her home village, near Bury St Edmunds, when she died.

    She had been driving a Vauxhall Corsa which was in a collision with a silver Ford Galaxy. The Ford was travelling towards Ixworth.

    The 32-year-old was treated by ambulance staff but died at the scene. 

  13. Murder victim was found with nine stab wounds, court hearspublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    A man was found stabbed nine times near his home, a court has heard.

    As we reported earlier, the identity of the man charged with the murders of Peter Stuart, 75, and his wife Sylvia, 69, is in dispute.

    Ipswich Crown Court heard the body of Mr Stuart was found in a shallow water in woodland near his home in Weybread on 3 June.

    Prosecuting, Karim Khalil QC said: "He had plainly been murdered."

    The body of Mrs Stuart has not been found but police fear she is dead.

    "We say she has been murdered too but has been hidden more successfully," said Mr Khalil.

    The defendant, who the prosecution says is Ali Qazimaj, formerly of Tilbury, Essex, denies murder.

    The trial continues.

  14. Murder accused 'carried out contract killing', court hearspublished at 17:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    The man accused with the murders of a Suffolk couple claimed to have carried out a contract killing, a court has heard. 

     As we've been reporting, the trial of the man accused of the murders of Peter and Sylvia Stuart from Weybread has got under way at Ipswich Crown Court

    The court heard the defendant, whose identity is in dispute, had been told that the Stuarts were "millionaires" by their son-in-law's father Sidney Paxman. 

    The defendant was Mr Paxman's carer. "According to Sidney Paxman, he told him he had been to Serbia and on his return he said he had carried out a contract killing," said Karim Khalil QC, prosecuting. 

    The court heard on a separate occasion, when the pair were driving, the defendant made a comment to the effect that a place they were driving past "would be a good place to dispose of a body".

    The defendant, who the prosecution says is Ali Qazimaj, formerly of Tilbury, Essex, denies murder.

    The trial continues.

  15. A14 rubbish clear-up costs £60k, says councilpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    Hundreds of tonnes of rubbish left by the A14 costs more than £60,000 to clean up, according to a district council.

    Mid Suffolk District Council, external said the amount of litter picked up by the roadside has double in eight years. 

    About 50 tonnes were collected in 2008 but the figure was closer to 100 last year.

    Councillor Roy Barker said the amount is rising despite anti-litter campaigns.

    He said: "We've got our education officer going out to schools to educate the children but the message is not getting out somehow."

  17. 'Dispute over identity' at start of murder trialpublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    The trial has begun of a man accused of murdering a couple from Suffolk.

    Ali Qazimaj, 43, originally from Tilbury, Essex, denies killing Peter Stuart and his wife Sylvia. 

    Mr Stuart's body was found stabbed to death near the couple's home at Weybread last June. Mrs Stuart's body has not been found.

    At the start of the prosecution case, Kharim Khalil QC said at the heart of the case was a dispute over identity.

    He said: "We say Ali Qazimaj killed these two people. 

    "The defendant claims he's not Ali Qazimaj. He claims to be called Vital Dapi. We say it's a lie."

    Mr Khalil told the jury at Ipswich Crown Court: "You have to decide whether Ali Qazimaj is the murderer, and whether the defendant is Ali Qazimaj."

    The trial continues.

  18. 'No initial link' between missing airman and human remainspublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2017

    The mother of missing RAF airman Corrie Mckeague has appealed to the public not to link the discovery of human remains near a motorway to her son.

    A police officer on routine patrol found the remains of a man near the M40 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, on Saturday

    Police are treating the death as "unexplained but not suspicious". 

    Nicola Urquhart, whose son went missing from Bury St Edmunds on 24 September, said: "There is nothing to initially suggest this is Corrie."

    Writing on the Find Corrie Facebook page, she added: "DNA is being checked, this will take a little time.

    "There will be an update provided when possible, please remember, this is somebody's child so please don't put any posts up in relation to this."

    The jury has been sworn in at the trial of a man accused of murdering a Suffolk couple.

    Ali Qazimaj, 43, originally from Tilbury, Essex, has been charged in connection with the deaths of Peter Stuart and his wife Sylvia. 

    Mr Stuart's body was found in the village of Weybread, Suffolk, in June. His wife's body has not been found.  

    CCTV images showed the couple were last seen at a farm shop in Norfolk.

    The trial is being held at Ipswich Crown Court.
