  13. Advice from fire service following Kelsale Hall blazepublished at 10:10 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017

Commander Ian Bowell said: "I think the pace of life is absolutely rapid today - we want everything now and we're all under pressure to do things as quickly as possible.

"We try and be efficient with time and perhaps when we're asleep we put our tumble dryer on so the clothes are drying overnight. Perhaps we're encouraged to use more efficient electricity tariffs, but I would urge people that tumble driers are a cause of fire.

"[We] should not use tumble dryers overnight, or when the property is unoccupied because fire can take hold, and if it's unseen, we've seen the consequences."

  14. Restrictions on A12 while Kelsale blaze was being tackledpublished at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017

Commander Ian Bowell from Suffolk Fire Service said the remote location of Kelsale Hall made it quite difficult to access a water supply to tackle the fire that broke out there yesterday evening.

    Kelsale Hall

"The house is set in some quite substantial grounds," she said.

"There was a pond reasonably close nearby which we were able to set our pumps into, but obviously that takes time and resources.

"We also had to take water from a hydrant - the nearest hydrant was back on the A12 so we had to put restrictions on the A12 with the support of the police, and then run a water relay probably the best part of a quarter of a mile."

    Kesale fire overnight

Commander Ian Bowell added: "Whilst I say it was a tumble drier, I think we shold allow the investigation to completely exhaust all other options but early indications [are that] yes, it was a tumble drier seen to be alight.

"But we're there to rule out all other possible causes as well.

"It's certainly not being treated as a suspicious fire, but it is early stages of the investigation."

  19. No reports of injuries at Kelsale blazepublished at 08:35 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017

Suffolk Fire Service say there were people at Kelsale Hall when fire broke out yesterday evening, but "they got out, there were no reports of any injuries".

    Kelsale Hall

Commander Ian Bowell said: "We received a call just before 18:00 to reports of a tumble drier on fire and when crews arrived they found a fire on the ground floor.

"As they fought to tackle that, they also discovered that because of the construction of the house, fire had spread through voids both below ground level into the basement, but also up into the roof space which was another two storeys further up.

"By the time we had a water supply established, the fire had took a good hold and destroyed most of the building."
