    Police investigating the deaths of two people in Stowmarket at the weekend, say they're not searching for anyone else in connection with the incident. Post-mortem examinations are due to take place later.

    It'll become cold with a risk of frost and ice and temperatures falling to 0C (32F).

  8. 'Festival of the Year' namedpublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    The Maverick Festival, external , celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has been named as BBC Suffolk's "Festival of the Year".

    Between now and when the Americana/alt.country/roots festival is held, there'll be extensive previews, interviews with many of the main acts taking part, and BBC Suffolk will broadcast live from the event.

    Among those taking part in the event, which is held at  Easton Farm Park, external  from 30 June to 2 July, are Sam Baker, external , who played at the inaugural festival, and Hank Wangford.  

    BBC Suffolk has covered the festival since its launch in 2008, when Nick Sinclair documented it in photographs .

    It was hailed a success and returned the following year (read a review ) and gradually grew into an established "boutique" festival, which has featured appearances from the likes of Ward Thomas and Ed Sheeran before they hit the big time, and also welcomed Billy Bragg and Thomas Dolby after they'd made it.

    The number of online child sex abuse suspects identified in the East of England has nearly trebled in just three years, according to official data. 

    A Freedom of Information request by the BBC revealed more than 2,000 people were identified by eight police forces in 2016, compared to 758 in 2014. 

    The number of cases is said to have left at least one police force overwhelmed.

    In a game that Norwich City dominated in terms of shots on goal, Ipswich Town's keeper Bartosz Bialkowski  came in for praise from his own manager Mick McCarthy and the Canaries' boss Alex Neil.

  11. Couple who died were 'very nice people'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    A pub landlord has described Stowmarket couple Richard and Sarah Pitkin, whose bodies have been found in a property in Stowupland Street, as "very nice people".

    Paul Berryman, from the Royal William pub, external in Union Street East, said: "The news has gone round the town really, really quickly but people don't know what happened. 

    "Sarah... was involved with the St Elizabeth Hospice up in the town and her partner Richard was a very well-respected carpenter, very good craftsman... normal couple really."

  12. Photograph released of couple whose bodies were found in Stowmarket published at 15:58 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    Police have issued a statement in relation to reports regarding events prior to the discovery of the bodies of Sarah and Richard Pitkin, at their home in Stowupland Street, Stowmarket.

    It says: "From our investigation to date, there is nothing to indicate that a firearm was involved in this incident or that a firearm was discharged in the area at the time."

    Investigations into the deaths are continuing.

    Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy believes his team's performance in yesterday's East Anglian derby will have improved the relationship between the club and its fans.

    "It's been broken at times [this season] and I get it, they've not enjoyed it. They've not been watching good attractive football-winning games. So I get that, I've not been enjoying it particularly. 

    "Over the last five games I think they've seen us play really well and I would think that stopping Norwich in their tracks for a promotion push, or helping doing that, will endear us to our fans a little bit more."

  16. Patients rights campaigner 'ashamed to be British'published at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    Patrick Thompson, who's been campaigning for local NHS patients rights for 40 years, has persuaded a man who's been on hunger strike for more than three weeks to eat again.

    Adriano Guedes is paralysed from the chest down following a stroke. He's spent more than two years at the James Paget University Hospital before being evicted and is now in temporary unfurnished accommodation in Lowestoft.

    Mr Thompson when he was "ashamed to be British" when he saw the conditions Mr Guedes is living in.

    "To think we live in a country that's supposed to show caring and respect... give people dignity... and you've found out since that this is not the first and it will not be the last," he said.

    The authorities involved say Mr Guedes has been treated with compassion and respect.

    The promoter of the first of three fundraising gigs to help get SuperGlu to a festival in the USA says the band "exemplify" everything that is good about the local music scene.

    SuperGlu, external played to a packed out Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday night and received £925 towards the cost of travelling to Texas for next month's South by Southwest festival.

    Seymour Quigley, who runs the Washing Machine night, said: "Everyone involved in the evening - the support bands, the technical crew and the venue - all provided their services free of charge, so all that money could go towards helping SuperGlu get to America.

    "The local music scene is such a lovely, inclusive and supportive community full of incredible bands and artists, and SuperGlu exemplify that: they're brilliant, they're nice to everyone, they've got heart-snappingly wonderful tunes, they're an incredible live band and people just really want to see them do well."

    SuperGlu are also playing fundraising shows at Stage 3 in Hackney on Thursday and The Swan, Ipswich, on Friday.

    They're due to play two showcase gigs at SXSW, with details of a third to be announced shortly.

    SuperGlu, external say they were "absolutely blown away" by the generosity of gig-goers who raised more than £900 on Saturday to help them play a festival in the USA.

    The band, who are based in Manningtree and Ipswich, have been picked to play a series of gigs at the prestigious South by Southwest festival, external in Texas next month.

    But with four members in the band and no major-label backing, it could be an expensive experience.

    So promoters have organised a series of gigs to help them, starting at the Washing Machine-run event at The Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, where £925 was donated.

    "We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Bury St Edmunds music scene," drummer Ben Ward said. 

    "We have always enjoyed an incredible reception from fans at shows there, but this was something else.

    "The money raised has helped so much, we can never thank everyone enough."

    There will be further fundraising gigs at Stage 3 in Hackney on Thursday and The Swan in Ipswich on Friday.
