  2. Ipswich skipper aiming to end on a highpublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 18 April 2017

After finally recording back to back wins for the first time this campaign, Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers says the team will be aiming to end a disappointing Championship season in style.

    Luke Chambers

Good Friday's 2-1 win at Burton Albion was followed up with yesterday's 3-1 win at home to Newcastle - probably Town's best performance of the last 12 months.

"We are a good enough squad to be nowhere near where we are, but we haven't performed as individuals and as a team," Chambers said.

"Barring a few lads, if anybody here says they've had a good season then they are not really telling the truth.

"We've taken some stick and we've had people voicing their opinions, and rightly so -because we've not been good enough."

  3. Mick McCarthy: That was more like my Ipswich Town teampublished at 08:24 British Summer Time 18 April 2017

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy hailed it a "very good performance from start to finish" yesterday, as his side beat promotion favourites Newcastle United 3-1 in the Portman Road sunshine.

At full time, the boss was quick to jump on any claims that Rafael Benitez's side were below par.

"I hope all the talk now isn't about Newcastle not playing well," McCarthy said. "It was my team today that played well and they didn't enjoy that.

"We dominated the game and we didn't let them settle. We chased them and harried them and tackled them.

"That's more like my team. That's how we've played here in the past and it's lovely to see it again."

  4. Mick McCarthy: Ipswich win a fitting tribute to Sir Bobbypublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 18 April 2017

Ipswich Town saved probably their best performance of the season for Sir Bobby Robson Day, as they beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Portman Road.

Goals from Freddie Sears (pictured), David McGoldrick and Emyr Huws made it back to back wins for the first time this campaign and guaranteed the Blues' Championship status.

At full time, Mick McCarthy said the match in general served as a fitting tribute to both clubs' former manager.

"It was lovely, for him posthumously of course, but also for Lady Elsie and all the family that were here today."

He added: "Sir Bobby must have just sided with us today I think!"

  5. Tuesday's weather: Chilly but mainly drypublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 18 April 2017

    BBC Look East weather

It's a chilly start to the day, with figures in low single figures, and one or two of us do have a few showers, but most of us should see a decent amount of sunshine.

The further west you are, the drier the day and the more sunshine you'll see,  but you'll still have the chilly north-easterly breeze.

The showers will mainly affect more easterly parts, and the east coast, but they should die away.

Top temperature across the region of 12C (54F).

Among the early stories we'll be bringing you is a new way of delivering home care in the county, based on a system which started in Holland 10 years ago.

Football fans won't be surprised to hear we'll also be singing the praises of Ipswich Town, after their magnificent win over Newcastle United on Monday.

If you've been outside already, you'll know it's a bit of a chilly one - Kate Kinsella will bring us a more considered forecast next.

  12. Sir Bobby Robson Day celebrated at matchpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 17 April 2017

The crowd at the Portman Road Championship ground paid tribute to a sporting hero before Monday's Ipswich Town match with Newcastle United.

Sir Bobby Robson, who died in 2009, is a sporting hero in the North East where he was born, learned the game of football and managed Newcastle United as well as in Suffolk where he enjoyed success in the game as a coach.

Ipswich Town had designated Monday as Sir Bobby Robson Day and it was the first time the two clubs had met in the Championship at Portman Road where his statue stands near the main entrance.

He was Ipswich Town manager from 1969 to 1982 leaving to take over the role for England.

His achievements were to make Ipswich Town a leading club in the First Division (now the Premiership), FA Cup winners in 1978 and UEFA Cup champions in 1981.

He got England into the quarter final places and a last four position in two world cups.

His football career ended at Newcastle United in 2004 after spells with clubs in Holland and Portugal.
