"There was a sigh of relief last night when I got the text to say it had come through safely," said Chris Sugars of UK Power Networks, external.

"Once you've done one then you've got an idea of what the issues are, so we hope the others can come through nice and smoothly."

Konstantinos Dimitriades was working at the Portland Hospital where James Dwerryhouse, 7, of Capel St Mary near Ipswich, was recovering from an operation to create a colostomy bag.

He told the London inquest he was unable to answer the parents' question as to why James hadn't been attached to monitors.

When the parents asked why James had been left un-monitored he'd replied at the time saying "I couldn't answer as I didn't expect him to be un-monitored".

It was noted in the handover to staff that James's dad had been settling him in bed between 01:00 and 03:30 and the monitoring equipment was removed as James was in dad's arms.

At around 04:19 a returning nurse noticed James wasn't breathing and called the crash team to attend.

James suffered from numerous health conditions, including sleep apnoea which can cause life-threatening stoppages in breathing.

    Mariam Issimdar
    BBC News

Conductors on Greater Anglia railway services are to be balloted on possible strike action on the issue of driver-only operated trains.

    Train driver

The union, which is concerned about job losses, wants a guarantee from Greater Anglia that when it introduces new driver-only trains in 2019 it will keep conductors on board.

Steve Hedley of the RMT said: "It's become clear at the last meeting that we had with senior management that the government and the Department for Transport are imposing on the company the fact they have to deliver driver-only operation.

"Obviously that's a position that we can't accept and that the drivers' union ASLEF can't accept either."

In a statement, Richard Dean, Greater Anglia spokesman, said: "We have conductors on our Intercity service between Norwich and London Liverpool Street and on our rural routes across East Anglia.

"They are highly-valued colleagues and we have no plans to remove them from our trains. In fact, we have a new conductors' training course starting in August.

"We hold regular meetings with the unions which represent our colleagues. These meetings will continue as we remain available for talks to resolve this issue.”

The union is already involved in a lengthy dispute with Southern Rail over the introduction of driver-only trains.

    Mariam Issimdar
    BBC News

Police involved in bringing to trial 13 men involved in a savage post-football match attack against a rival fan say the case isn't over yet.

    Det Ch Insp Martin Passmore

Twelve men convicted of attacking Simon Dobbin are beginning jail terms totalling more than 40 years today.

Mr Dobbin, a Cambridge United fan from Mildenhall, was left with serious brain damage after being set upon in Southend in 2015 after going to watch his team play at Southend United's Roots Hall ground.

The attack happened outside The Railway pub as the victim was heading with friends to Prittlewell railway station.

The 12 have been convicted of either violent disorder or conspiracy to commit violent disorder, rather than assault.

Det Ch Insp Martin Passmore said: "Bearing in mind we've convicted 12 people for the violent disorder aspects of this, there's 12 more as far as I'm concerned who went out of that pub that day who are perhaps responsible for these devastating injuries.

"This case isn't closed. It's not finished and if I can identify those that were directly responsible for Simon Dobbin's injuries I would love to go out there with my team and bring them to justice as well."

Nicole Dobbin and her daughter Emily have called for tougher action, during and after court proceedings yesterday.

They would like to see someone convicted of attempted murder given that Simon Dobbin was clinically dead for seven minutes before being saved by paramedics.

"I think we are in the driving seat," he told us. "We need to go out and bat well and see if we can manufacture something half way through today.

"If we can put a decent figure on the board relatively quickly then I reckon we have a chance."
