    There'll be a few isolated showers but otherwise, it'll be largely dry overnight across the BBC East region with clear spells and temperatures in rural areas possibly dropping a couple of degrees below 9C (48F).

    Tuesday will start fresh but sunny, and while many places will remain dry, we can't rule out a few showers.

    Temperatures about 18C (64F) with a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind picking up towards the end of the day.

  2. Man dies after Gillingham collisionpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

    A man in his 20s has died following a car crash in Gillingham near Beccles on Sunday night.

    Police say shortly before midnight, a white BMW travelling on the A143 towards Great Yarmouth, hit a tree.

    The road was closed for about five hours.

    A man is in a critical condition in hospital after the vehicle he was driving left the southbound carriageway A11 at Red Lodge on Sunday afternoon and hit with a tree.

    The man, in his 60s, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital after the incident, which happened just before 14:50.

    His passenger, a woman in her 50s, had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

    Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car, a blue Fiat, before or during the crash.

    There will also be some bright or sunny intervals between the showers.

    It will feel cool however, with a freshening southwesterly wind and a top temperature of 18C (64F).

    The Met Office says very strong winds with gusts of 55-65mph (89km/h-105km/h), perhaps reaching 75mph (121km/h) in exposed places, are looking increasingly likely on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning

    A west Suffolk farmer says she doesn't know how to make dog owners understand the damage their animals can do to sheep.

    Katie Mitcham-Henry grazes her sheep at a number of locations including Braffield St George, Rougham and Beyton, but says for the last three years her biggest problem area seems to be Hessett.

    She said in one instance, a dog badly mutilated a sheep in front of people: "I don't know what to do. I do not know how to get this message across, about dog-worrying."

    Urging owners to keep their dogs on leads when they're on public footpaths, she added: "I don't think people understand the mentality of a dog - it's in a dog's nature to chase."

    Suffolk Wildlife Trust has told us it's been a record year for incidents of dog attacks on its land, and backed calls for the pets to be kept on leads.

    A woman from Old Newton near Stowmarket says she hopes her daughter will be back in the country by next weekend.

    Lara was working at a hotel in the British Virgin Islands (largest island, Tortola pictured), which is one of the areas that took the full force of Hurricane Irma, but she managed to get on a boat to neighbouring Puerto Rico, from where she phoned her mother.

    Diana Leyton said her daughter was "terribly lucky": "The building where she lived is still standing.

    "Extraordinarily, probably because of the exact location of the building where she lived, she really didn't hear a lot of the storm."

    She said water still flooded into her daughter's flat.

    "She managed to sweep most of the water out and down some steps.

    "Then she said she was so tired she went into the bathroom with a load of cushions and fell asleep which is quite extraordinary.

    "I'm so grateful she's out, but you can't help worrying about all the other people."

  12. 'Significant' drop in offences involving drivers and mobile phonespublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

    The number of offences involving drivers using mobiles in the county has dropped significantly in the past six months, say police.

    In 2016, the police caught an average of 160 drivers each month.

    But in the first six months of 2017, the average has fallen to 57.

    Earlier this year, tougher laws governing the use of mobile phones while driving were introduced.

    Ch Insp Kris Barnard, head of roads policing, said: "It's a significant penalty now, it's £200 which will hurt people I'm sure, and six points on your licence.

    "For those young drivers, if you were within a couple of years of gaining your licence, then potentially you could be losing your licence."

    He won Thursday's time trial in Essex, although he didn't win Friday's stage in Suffolk or any other stage, but Dutchman Lars Boom is celebrating his second overall Tour of Britain title as the event finished in Cardiff yesterday.

    School boy Drew Kemp was the star of the show as Mildenhall Fen Tigers, external walloped Cradley 60-28 at West Row yesterday.

    "It was good, I came into this meeting more confident, now that I've got some meetings under my belt and I knew I could do it," said the 15-year-old, who was paid for 14 points.

    "Lakeside, when I made my debut, was good.

    "I won the reserves race there, although I felt like I struggled in the remaining heats and National League isn't as easy as I first thought it was going to be!"

    A full-size model of the type of train that will be introduced on lines across East Anglia will be unveiled later today at the Bombardier factory in Derby.

    As part of its bid to retain the rail franchise for the region, Abellio Greater Anglia agreed to boost rolling stock by more than 600 units (engines or carriages) built in Britain.

    They will travel between Norwich, Cambridge and London through Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire.

    The firm has also undertaken to reduce journey times. At least four 90-minute services (two in each direction) will be run between London and Norwich each weekday and two 60-minute services between Ipswich and London.

    Facilities for commuters will also receive a boost with wifi available on the new units.

    Abellio's contract runs until 2025.

  16. Ipswich couple holed up in hotel while Irma strikespublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

    An Ipswich woman who's on holiday with her husband in Orlando in Florida, USA has spoken to BBC Suffolk about Hurricane Irma hitting the area where she's staying.

    Gemma told us last week the hotel didn't seem too fussed about the approaching hurricane, and that it was only over the last 48 hours things started to get a bit more serious: "We've had a curfew which was put in place from six pm this evening and will run for 24 hours, so we've obviously got to stay in the room in the hotel.

    "There's been lots of flashes going on, I think just transformers blowing, and obviously losing a lot of power at the moment.

    "Whilst it's at Category 2 the winds at the moment are at 49 miles an hour [70km/h] with gusts up to 70 miles an hour [113km/h]."

    She said they feel safe in the hotel: "They have kept the restaurant open with a buffet for everyone.

    "The hotel's now full with a lot of people who've come up from the south of Florida."

    The couple are due to fly home at the weekend, and Gemma says "hopefully they can salvage a few days of holiday towards the end of the week".

    The Wolfpack's tries came from David Coutts and Dwayne Corcoran, while Liam McBride's kicking kept the home side at arm's length throughout.

    Bury return to action on Saturday, at home to Old Redcliffians.
