The 18-year-old suffered injuries to his arm, shoulder and back on Tuesday 21 November at 18:43 GMT in Trafalgar Street.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment and is in a serious but not life-threatening condition, Sussex Police said.
Two boys aged 15 and 16 have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Officers were called to a property in Foord Road after an emergency call was made to Kent Police at 11:29 GMT on Wednesday 22 November.
A firearm has been recovered from the property and investigations are continuing.
Paramedics are also at the scene.
