Two men have been jailed over an attack on a dog walker in Chatham.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was walking his dog along New Road with his wife when he was attacked.

Dirtan Kamberaj, 35, of Napier Road, Gillingham, and Ivailo Kolev, 35, of New Road, Chatham, were both found guilty of grievous bodily harm at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday.

Police said the attack happened after Kamberaj started stroking the man's dog, but when he was asked to stop, he started swearing at him. Kolev then punched the victim, Kent Police said.

He was also hit over the head with a cricket bat, after a number of men came out of a nearby house and started to attack him.

The victim suffered a fractured nose and bruising to his left eye, a police spokesman said.

Kamberaj was sent to prison for 32 months and Kolev was jailed for eight years.

Dozens of bus services used by the elderly and disabled could be scrapped in Kent under a proposal to cut funding by nearly £4m.

Seventy-four bus services would be lost if the plans by Kent County Council to reduce funding by 70% are approved.

The council predicts it would save £2m next year and the same amount the year after.

A meeting on Thursday is due to discuss launching a consultation on the proposal.

A pair of Sir Winston Churchill’s reading glasses will be sold at an auction in Croydon.

The tortoiseshell spectacles, made by opticians C.W. Dixey & Sons, have been valued between £1,000 to £2,000.

Following Churchill’s death, the opticians were in possession of three pairs of Churchill’s glasses.

It’s believed one pair was given to Chartwell - a National Trust property in Kent which was once Churchill's home - and another was auctioned in 2011.
