    Chants of “Harry, Harry, Harry” rang out among the vast crowd that turned out to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.

    After chatting to members of the public, the royal couple were greeted at the Pavilion entrance by pupils from Queen’s Park School.

    Harry traded high fives and handshakes with the children as his wife spoke to other youngsters.

    Among them was nine-year-old Isla who said: “Harry said ‘how are you?’, ‘what are you doing?’, ‘what’s your favourite subject?

    “And Meghan just said, ‘How are you?’. I was really excited.”

  7. Armed robber targets Tesco convenience storepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Staff at a Tesco Express store in Rottingdean have been threatened by a robber armed with a knife.

    The man stole cash from the till just before 21:00 BST last night, but no-one was hurt, Sussex Police said.

    The man who targeted the store in West Street was described as white, of stocky build and about 6ft 2in tall.

    He was wearing a light grey Emporio Armani hooded top with a large white motif on the chest and the top of the hood.

    The hood was up and his face was covered with either a black scarf or balaclava.

    He also wore light grey tracksuit bottoms and light grey gloves.

    Appealing for witnesses, Det Insp Ian Still said the store was located in "a busy spot at the bottom of the High Street and the junction with the A259 South Coast Road".

  8. Man on pier sought after young girls chasedpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    A man who approached two 13-year-old girls on Worthing Pier and acted in a threatening manner towards one of them is being sought by Sussex Police.

    It happened last month, on Sunday 16 September, as the two teenagers, from Rustington, sat and ate lunch on the east side of the pier by the theatre.

    The man started talking to them, but they did not know him and got up to leave.

    He then chased after them for a short distance and tried to grab one of the girls, before two members of the public stopped to help and he fled the scene.

    PC Caroline Bond said his motive was unclear, and the girls were not hurt.

    He was described as aged in his late 20s or early 30s, of medium height, with a shaved head, and wearing dark clothing.

    He was hunched over and had some teeth missing.

  11. Moped gang put man in hospitalpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    A man suffered serious head injuries in an attack by a moped gang in Littlehampton.

    The 62-year-old, who's believed to be a firefighter, became involved in an argument with three moped riders in the car park of Tesco in Broad Piece about 22:10 BST on 1 October.

    He was hit on the head with a helmet and a metal tool, before the gang rode away.

    He was treated at Worthing Hospital and has now been discharged.

    They were treated to a burst of Vivaldi's Four Seasons by music students.

    The one-day tour moves on to Brighton and Hove where, after lunch, Harry and Meghan will tour the Royal Pavilion, built by Harry's ancestor the Prince Regent.

    They will then move on to a charity which helps survivors of sexual violence.

    The visit will wrap up in Peacehaven just after 16:00 BST.

    The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have left Bognor Regis and are on their way to Brighton.

    The couple visited the University of Chichester's campus in Bognor, where they met staff and students.

    After lunch they'll tour the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, before visiting the Survivors' Network, external, which supports those who've suffered sexual abuse and violence.

    The tour finishes at the Joff Youth Centre in Peacehaven.

  16. Man sought after cash stolen from Co-op storepublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Police are seeking a man who carried out an early morning robbery at a store in Haywards Heath.

    The Co-op store in Middle Village, within Bolnore Village, was targeted just after 06:00 BST yesterday as staff were preparing to open.

    One of the staff members went to the exit at the rear of the store and was confronted by the suspect who made her take him to the safe from which he took £2,000 before leaving.

    The suspect was described as stocky, and was wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up, a black full face balaclava, black trousers and white trainers.

    He was carrying a bag which was believed to be brown.

    Sussex Police said the staff member was unhurt but was left very shaken.

    The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived in Bognor Regis on the second part of their whistle-stop tour of Sussex.

    They will be officially opening the University of Chichester's Engineering and Digital Technology Park in Bognor Regis.
