Councillors are due to make a decision tonight on controversial plans for a new Ikea store on land between the Brighton and Hove Albion FC training ground and Shoreham Airport.

Developers say the proposal for Lancing, in West Sussex, will boost the economy, and include 600 homes and a new school on New Monks Farm.

However, those against the idea are worried about the impact on wildlife and congestion on the A27.

Yesterday Lancing College withdrew its objections to the plans, saying it had reached an agreement with the developers to secure an access to the college once the construction is completed.

The land is owned by the football club.
