Bradley Lowery, who battled neuroblastoma since he was 18-months-old, was awarded a North East Pride of Britain Award for his bravery.
He was joined on stage by his mum and hero Jermain Defoe earlier this year.
Bury FC, who are playing against Sunderland in a friendly tonight, external, said there would be a minute's applause for Bradley ahead of kick-off.

Sunderland AFC have paid their respects to six-year-old fan Bradley Lowery, who passed away today.
In a statement, external, the club praised Bradley's "indomitable spirit, tremendous courage and beautiful smile" and called him an "inspiration".
The team says the little boy's "best friend" and former player Jermain Defoe is "naturally heartbroken", and highlighted how Bradley's courage "humbled" everyone.
Speaking on Thursday at his first media appearance as a Bournemouth player, Jermain Defoe says Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery - who has since died after a long illness - will "always be in my heart".

Sunderland super-fan Bradley Lowery battled neuroblastoma since he was 18 months old.
Last year, more than £700,000 was raised by well-wishers to pay for him to be given antibody treatment in New York, but medics then found his cancer had grown and his illness was terminal.
During the last months of his life, the little boy had numerous memorable moments, such as being SAFC's mascot and becoming "best mates" with his hero, striker Jermain Defoe.
Bradley also led England out at Wembley for a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, again with his best friend Jermain.
Last year, Bradley was awarded Match of the Day's December goal of the month award after taking a penalty ahead of Sunderland's game against Chelsea.

Bradley battled with Neuroblastoma - a rare type of cancer - since he was 18 months old.
His parents have posted on Facebook that the little is now "with the angels" and that there are "no words" to describe their heartbreak.
Bradley passed away at 13:35 this afternoon.
A former Newcastle United coach has denied 35 sexual offences dating back as far as 1973.
George Ormond, 61, pleaded not guilty via video link at Newcastle Crown Court to each of the charges which were said to relate to 18 victims.
He faces 33 counts of indecent assault, one of gross indecency with a child and a serious sex assault on a 15-year-old between 1973 and 1998.
The defendant was granted bail and will stand trial on 21 May.
Lee Fish, prosecuting, said: "There are 18 complainants and other witnesses who will be called to provide factual evidence."
The leader of the country's biggest union will demand Theresa May gives the same deal to the English regions as she handed to Northern Ireland.
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey will speak at the Durham Miners' Gala this weekend alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Mr McCluskey is accusing the Conservatives of "bunging" £1bn to the Democratic Unionist Party while insisting there was no money for schools, housing and "sprinklers in tower blocks" elsewhere.
An estimated 200,000 people are expected to attend the event, where Mr McCluskey will say he is pleased for Northern Ireland and its communities.
However, he is due to say "the Government can find money to invest in Northern Ireland, it must be found for all our nations and all our regions".
