    A speech by the Prime Minister has been moved from Newcastle today because of the severe weather.

    Theresa May will deliver a speech about Brexit when she will set out five "tests" for a future UK-EU deal and pledge to "bring our country together"

    Mrs May's speech has been relocated from Newcastle to the Mansion House in central London.

    The Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue team tweeted these photos to show the conditions on the England-Scotland border yesterday where they and other teams helped rescue 17 stranded motorists.

    With the A1 closed, the usual alternatives aren't really an option either. The A68 is closed, as is the A696, while there are several large snow drifts affecting the A697.

    The advice for drivers is not to travel unless your journey is essential.

    Steven and his wife were supposed to be joining a cruise for her birthday, but instead they joined queues of drivers stuck on the A1 at Berwick yesterday and spent the night at the Brewers Arms.

    He said: "We were supposed to catch a flight in Edinburgh, but that got cancelled. We decided to try to get a flight from London to Marseille, but obviously we're not getting that."

  10. Amber warning continues until 10published at 07:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

    The amber warning for snow from the Met Office is in place until 10:00 which means the snow showers will continue.

    After that a yellow warning for snow remains in place until last thing on Saturday.

    The Met OIffice says: "Snow showers are expected to continue over parts of northern Britain, bringing further accumulations of snow and a risk of icy stretches.

    "Further delays to travel and public transport could occur, whilst some rural communities could become or remain cut off. Further impacts to power supplies/mobile phone coverage are also possible."

    Newcastle International Airport is experiencing difficulties this morning.

    Once again it's mainly domestic and Irish services suffering although easyJet has pulled its Geneva and Alicante flights this morning, while KLM's early Amsterdam plane was also cancelled.

    It's expected many of the hundreds of schools closed for the last two days will be shut for a third day. We'll bring you more news as we get it.

    There've also been a handful of power cuts this morning. About 80 homes are out in Peterlee.
