    Part of a waste ground is being dug up in the search for the body of Donna Keogh, who went missing 20 years ago.

    The owner of Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank, CYBG, has agreed to buy Virgin Money for £1.7bn.

    CYBG said the new firm would be a leading force in banking, "disrupting the status quo and championing customer service excellence".

    It will be the UK's sixth-largest bank, with about six million customers.

    Virgin Money, which was founded in 1995, expanded its business in 2011 when it bought parts of Northern Rock for about £747m.

    An area of wasteland in Middlesbrough is being dug up in an attempt to find the body of Donna Keogh.

    Donna went missing 20 years ago when she was 17 and her disappearance is one of three cases being re-investigated by Cleveland Police after it was awarded £3.77m by the Home Office.

    An 86-year-old man with dementia has gone missing.

    Russell Goldsmith has been missing since 08:15 on Saturday after leaving his home in the Neville’s Cross area of Durham to go and buy a paper.

    He is white, 5ft 8in with short brown, greyish hair, and is believed to be wearing beige trousers and a green checked shirt.

    Insp Joanne Malkin said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Russell’s welfare, particularly given his poor mobility and his showing the early signs of dementia.

    “I ask that anybody with any information shares it with us, and that if Russell himself is reading this, he gets in touch with police as soon as possible.”
