  11. Gateshead bus lane cameras to go live this weekpublished at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2018

Three new bus lane enforcement cameras in Gateshead will go live this week.

    They're at:

    • Prince Consort Road, at its junction with the A184 Askew Road
    • A694 between Winlaton Mill and Swalwell roundabout
    • A184 Felling bypass at Heworth

In future, anyone caught illegally driving in a bus lane could face a £60 penalty charge notice or prosecution if they don't pay.

Gateshead Council says the decision to invest in cameras came after repeated complaints from the public, bus operators and Northumbria Police about motorists abusing bus lanes to avoid traffic.

Gateshead Council says it consulted a number of local transport organisations including bus operators, taxi and private hire operators before deciding to introduce bus lane cameras and did not receive a response against the proposal.

  16. Gateshead misses out on Channel 4 creative hubpublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2018

Gateshead has missed out on hosting a one of two new Channel 4 creative hubs.

It had made the shortlist, but Bristol and Glasgow were chosen by the broadcaster.

Meanwhile Leeds has been chosen as the location for Channel 4's new national headquarters.

Around 300 Channel 4 jobs will be based in the new hubs outside of London.

Alex Mahon, chief executive of Channel 4, said: "We undertook a rigorous process over the last seven months and the high calibre of all the pitches meant those were incredibly difficult decisions to make.

"Locating our national HQ in Leeds enables us to capitalise on a strong and fast-growing independent production sector in cities across the North of England - and also has the potential to unlock growth in the North East and East of the country, an area without a major presence from other national broadcasters."
