16:50 GMT 16 December 2021Pregnant women can get a Covid vaccination at Newcastle's RVI hospital as a drop-in clinic opens for all new or pregnant mums.
It comes as the advisory group on vaccines, the JCVI, put pregnant women on the priority list for jabs, similar to people with underlying health conditions.
Midwife Claire Lisle said she hoped more women would get vaccinated.
She said: “We’re delighted to be offering the Covid 19 vaccination within our maternity unit. We’re now in our second week and hope that women will continue to access the service and protect themselves and their baby."
Newcastle Hospitals says pregnant women are at risk of getting severely ill with Covid and data has shown it can result a higher chance of needing intensive care treatment and a higher risk of premature birth.
Ewa Heydecke (above) is 39 weeks pregnant with her second child and received her booster vaccine at the clinic.
She said: “I can't think of a better and more reassuring environment to get vaccinated during pregnancy. You are surrounded by midwives, equipment and the maternity assessment unit is around the corner.”
Pandemic uncertainly forced closure says bistro bosspublished at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2021
16:27 GMT 16 December 2021A bistro which served up meals for elderly people during lockdown is closing after its owner said he had lost confidence in the industry.
Alan Chapman said the latest cancellations over Christmas sparked by concern over the Omicron variant led him to decide to shut Chappy's Bistro at the White Feather, in Berwick Hills, Teesside, next month.
The hospitality industry has called for urgent financial support from the government, amid further uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
Mr Chapman (below) said: "People have lost their confidence with going out to pubs, I've had so many cancellations this month, I was fully booked going into December and January and February are bad months and it's just too much, it's broken the camel's back."
He opened the restaurant with 12 members of staff, three months before the Covid pandemic in December 2019.
Mr Chapman, who also runs a flooring shop, said he would instead concentrate on that business instead.
He says it is costing £3,000 a month to keep the bistro running and he would like to see more government help for the industry.
It comes as the prime minister said he had not told the public to cancel social events but has urged people to exercise "caution."

12:06 GMT 16 December 2021People living in a Stockton street where a man was arrested have been allowed back into their homes.
Police officers were called to a property in Hartington Road on Wednesday morning and arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of possessing "a bladed article".
The evacuation came when Cleveland Police said there was concern about an item found at the property.
The force said it worked with "partner organisations" to ensure it was safe before residents were allowed to return at about 22:00 GMT on Wednesday.
Officers thanked residents involved for their patience and say a man remains in custody while investigations continue.
