    Julia Lewis

I've just visited the beautiful Peasholm Park in Scarborough for BBC Radio York's Gardening Show.

I found out all about its history and, while I was there, enjoyed a tour of the park and gardens.

    Andrew Barton
    BBC Local Live, York

There's a call for a North Yorkshire flood protection scheme to be rolled out nationwide.

A group which brings together business and politicians in a bid to help the environment says it could form part of a wider plan that rethinks how we deal with flooding.

The Green Alliance says a fund should be set up so natural protection schemes like one in Pickering, which uses so-called "leaky dams" to slow the flow of water off slopes, should be adopted elsewhere.

    Pickering flood scheme

Work took place in the hills above Pickering (pictured) to slow the flow of the river and keep water in upstream catchments away from villages.

According to the Environment Agency, the Pickering scheme slowed river peak flow by 15-20%, saving Pickering's museum and several homes.

The Green Alliance is also calling for rewards for farmers who manage their land well and more regional decision-making to tackle local flooding hotspots.
