Thousands of people gathered in the harbour yesterday to welcome the crew to the new lifeboat station which has been built to house it.

Funded by donations from the F W Plaxton Charitable Trust, the lifeboat was named after the founder of Scarborough coach building firm Plaxton Ltd in his memory.

It seems to be a generally trouble-free start to the working week in most places on North Yorkshire's roads this morning.

However, in Scarborough the A165 Columbus Ravine is currently closed in both directions between the Dean Road junction and the Hoxton Road junction because of accident investigation work.

Police say the road may remain closed for some time.
