    People living around one of the eight possible sites for an HS2 parkway station in South and West Yorkshire have been expressing concern about the impact on their communities.

    Bramley, Mexborough, Wales, Hooton Roberts, Hickleton, Fitzwilliam, Hemsworth and Clayton are all on the shortlist for the planned spur station outside a city centre. 

    Martin McKervey, a partner at law firm Nabarro and a representative of the Sheffield City Region on Transport for the North, says it's pointless to worry when we don't yet know that the current route of the proposed high-speed HS2 line is a done deal.

    But he says any decision has to be based on what's best for the region as a whole:

    More teachers could be recruited in Bradford through apprenticeships. 

    It's an idea being looked at by council officials following the publication of a report which highlighted the rate schools in the district are losing their staff.

    This morning, I'm out at a school in Barnsley which has decided to drive up standards - with the help of some sheep and pigs.

    Milefield Primary School in Grimethorpe, external is setting up its own Community Farm.

    The idea is that the children will learn how to look after the animals and that the farm will also have a positive effect on the wider community.

    A couple near Harrogate are serving up bacon and eggs for hundreds of people this morning. 

    Christine and Chris Ryder have turned their farmhouse at Blubberhouses into a pop-up cafe to raise money. 

    This is their third fundraiser in aid of farming charity, The Addington Fund, which works to provide homes for farming families in England and Wales who have had to leave the industry.

    Christine, who's also deputy mayor of Harrogate, has been telling BBC Radio York all about the fry-up:

    Bradford City's EFL Trophy quarter-final against Oxford United last night was postponed 20 minutes before kick-off because of a frozen pitch.

    Bradford's Twitter account announced the referee's decision, external just seven minutes before kick-off, but manager Stuart McCall has since said he supports the postponement.  

    Any Bantams fan travelling from Bradford to the Kassam Stadium and back on Tuesday would have faced a round-trip of approximately 380 miles.  

    McCall says: "I'm sure there'll be some sort of deal arranged hopefully [for the fans], because again it's probably the same loyal band who were at Cheltenham last Tuesday who are there again."

    A strike ballot by workers at Northern Rail ends today.

    The workers are in dispute with their employer Arriva Rail North over pay after the RMT union described the latest offer as "unacceptable". 

    Any strike action could mean disruption on routes to and from places like Scarborough, York and Harrogate.

    A planned "parkway" station to serve South Yorkshire will "spread the benefits" of the planned HS2 high-speed rail route, it's being claimed.

    It comes as the BBC finds that eight locations are being considered for the HS2 parkway station.

    Six of the eight possible sites are villages, with Bramley, Mexborough, Wales, Hooton Roberts, Hickleton, Fitzwilliam, Hemsworth and Clayton all on the shortlist. 

    Paul Griffiths, Phase 2 Development Director for HS2, says a consultation over what he describes as the benefits of a parkway station will now get under way:

    New plans for the site of the former Bradford and Bingley HQ are due to be discussed later. 

    The building, on Main Street in Bingley, West Yorkshire, was an example of 1970s "brutalist" architecture.

    It was demolished in 2015 after being seen by many locals as an eyesore for years. 

    Supermarket giant Lidl says it'll submit plans to build on the site later this year.

    A jobless man who waged a 13-year hate mail campaign - including the targeting of the Archbishop of York - has been jailed

    Mark Graham, 46, was trapped by police after forensic examination of marks on a letter sent to the senior cleric led officers to his home in the Holbrooks area of Coventry.  

    Graham, of Everdon Road, Holbrooks, was jailed for four-and-a-half years at Birmingham Crown Court, after sending a barrage of racially offensive letters to more than 100 people between 2001 and 2014. 

    When police searched Graham's home, they found letters ready for posting addressed to sporting personalities, members of parliament and pop singers.

    An overwhelming majority of women MPs have received online and verbal abuse from the public and a third have considered quitting as a result, a BBC Radio 5 live survey suggests.

    Some reported death threats, with more than half of those questioned saying they had had physical threats.

    More than a third of the UK's 195 female MPs took part in the research.

    Of these, two thirds said they felt "less safe" following the murder of Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox last summer.

    The anonymous survey, conducted last month, saw one respondent remarking that "the level of violence and abuse has significantly increased in the last years. At times I have been very frightened."

    More on the news that eight locations in South and West Yorkshire are currently being considered for an HS2 "parkway" station with about 1,700 parking spaces.

    The BBC has found that the locations under scrutiny for the station, which will mostly serve South Yorkshire, are:

    • Bramley
    • Mexborough
    • Wales
    • Hooton Roberts
    • Hickleton
    • Fitzwilliam
    • Hemsworth
    • Clayton   

    What we don't yet know is how much the new station on the high-speed HS2 route would cost or who would foot the bill to build it.

    A study into a proposed "parkway" station will be completed later this year, according to HS2.

    Homeless people in Leeds are being offered free haircuts, with local hairdressers being called on to volunteer for a few hours.

    The Haircuts 4 Homeless charity is going to be based at Leeds' well-known and long-established St George's Crypt homeless shelter.

    One customer says: "It makes me forget my problems for a while because I've got a nice haircut.":

    We may be leaving the EU, but York's still very much part of Europe...

    That's the message ahead of a big conference on tourism in the city, looking at how to keep visitors coming to the city. 

    Almost seven million tourists bring in more than half-a-billion pounds to the city's economy each year.

    Eight locations are being considered for an HS2 "parkway" station to serve South Yorkshire.

    The station would be built on the proposed high-speed rail route following the M18 which was revealed last year.  

    Trains 400m long would stop at the station which would have 1,700 parking spaces.

    Head of the HS2 project, Sir David Higgins, has already indicated a site between Doncaster and Rotherham is his preferred option.

    A separate spur would go through Chesterfield to Sheffield city centre.

    The father of a Leeds hit-and-run victim is taking a 15,000-signature petition to Downing Street today calling for tougher sentences for drivers who kill. 

    James Gilbey, who was 25 and from Bramley, died in July 2015 after he was hit by a car doing 80mph in a 40mph zone

    Two men from Bradford were sent to prison for eight years and could be released after four years on license. 

    James' dad Richard, who's originally from Wiltshire, says the sentence still "breaks his heart":

    Oxford United's EFL Trophy quarter-final against Bradford City last night was postponed 20 minutes before kick-off because of a frozen pitch.

    Earlier, Luton's match against League Two rivals Yeovil had also been postponed for the same reason.

    "Clearly our priority has to be the safety of the players," referee Dean Whitestone told Oxford's club website., external

    "There had been two pitch inspections before we arrived at 17:45. We took a look and at that time the pitch was playable, but during the warm-up it was clear that the conditions had become worse," he added.
