  1. Twelve-year search continues for Doncaster rape suspectpublished at 11:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Police are once again asking for help in finding 43-year-old Soran Hayder Ali, who's wanted in connection with a rape and burglary in Doncaster 12 years ago.

    A woman was raped in her home in Campsall at about 03:00 on 27 November 2005.

    An appeal for information was made, but no arrests were ever made.

    He's also wanted in connection with a suspected burglary at a property nearby, reported to police that same evening.

    After more than a year, Elland Bridge is to reopen after suffering a huge amount of structural damage during the 2015 Christmas floods.

  3. New signs saying Tadcaster Bridge is openpublished at 10:57 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    New illuminated signs have now appeared on the A64 telling people that Tadcaster Bridge is open

    It follows a delay in removing signs that said the bridge was still closed. 

    The crossing opened last Friday after being shut for more than a year after the bridge partially collapsed in the floods.

    The bridge will close overnight on Saturday to finish landscaping around the area around it.  

  4. Elland Bridge: Crowds gather for reopeningpublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Elland Bridge is due to reopen in a short while this morning, and the crowds are gathering:

    The bridge has been previously open to pedestrians and cyclists, but today you'll be able to drive across it.

    The Grade II listed structure had to be dismantled and reconstructed after the Boxing Day floods of 2015.

    Luckily the residents of Elland aren't being subjected to the nail biting wait like those from Tadcaster, all the lines are painted and the tarmac is well dry!

  5. Supermarket reopens after man 'seen with gun'published at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    A supermarket has reopened after reports of a man with a gun in Leeds city centre.

    Sainsbury's on The Headrow was cordoned off after a police received a "number of calls" about a man carrying what looked like a handgun. 

    Officers arrested a 25-year-old man just before 22:00 last night and a cordon has remained in place until a few moments ago.

    West Yorkshire Police say the man wasn't carrying a gun when he was arrested, and a search of the supermarket and surrounding areas has failed to find any weapons.

    There's been a human blockade outside a Sheffield Primary School this morning. 

    Parents at Carfield Primary in Meersbrook say they're taking action against reckless driving and parking that puts children at risk.

    The school says they're writing to parents to ask them to park more considerately.

    A Sheffield man with months to live is raising money to tackle Mount Everest. 47-year-old Ian Toothill was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2015.

    Ian wants to raise £250,000,, external and be the first person with cancer to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain.

    The personal trainer is raising money for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support, external, to inspire others living with the disease.

    Ian is a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday, external fan, but says he will plant a Sheffield United, external flag at the summit if someone donates £1,000.

    Politicians in Leeds say they need to keep the pressure on the government to get help bolstering the River Aire's flood defences.

    A report by Leeds City Council calls for 'critical' additional investment for Leeds to help prevent a repeat of the Storm Eva flooding in December 2015. Leeds councillors are today expected to send the report to environment minister Andrea Leadsom. 

    Richard Lewis, deputy leader of Leeds City Council says the government has been slow to respond.

    if you're out and about around York this morning, this could slow you down.

    There'll be two way traffic lights on the A19 at Germany Beck, Fulford Road.  This is where hundreds of new homes are being built. A new junction is being created.

    The good news is that the lights are only in operation between 09:00 and 15:00 on weekdays only.

    Parents at Carfield Primary in Meersbrook are taking action against what they say is reckless driving and parking which is putting children at risk.

    They're blocking a road near the school - and say it's "only a matter of time" before a child is injured or killed.

    Some great news if you use this bridge. 

    In just under two hours you'll be able to drive over Elland Bridge which was badly damaged by floods in 2015. It has now been fully restored. 

    Project manager Graham Ramdsen says it has been a complicated re-build because of all the pipes and wires running through it.

    The bill for the tidal surge which hit Scarborough and Whitby last month is being put at £250,000.

    Scarborough Borough Council says that was the cost of issuing warnings along with cleaning up and carrying out repairs. 

    Officials are hoping to claim some money back from the government.

    Parts of Leeds city centre were closed off last night after reports of a man with a handgun.

    At 21:41 police received reports of man on the Headrow in Leeds in possession of a gun. 

    Armed officers attended the scene and the suspect was traced and located before being arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence. 

    No-one was injured in the incident.

    Parts of the cordon stayed up through most of the night with it being almost completely lifted by 06:00 today.

    There's a warning that supermarkets could soon no longer stock free range eggs. 

    Bird flu restrictions means hens still have to be kept inside.  

    One of the country's largest egg producers, who's based at Thirsk in North Yorkshire, has told BBC Radio York that eggs may have to be relabelled as from a "barn."

    Edward Bootham is a Yorkshire-based farmer who is the chair of the Poultry Club. He says the government department responsible needs to raise awareness of the problem among amateur poultry keepers.
