    The fiancee of a Sheffield father-of-three who was killed in a knife attack last month has spoken publicly for the first time since his death.

    Jarvin Blake, 22, was stabbed in the Burngreave area of the city in March in what police say was a targeted attack.

    Speaking at a police media conference, Kelsey Dixon paid tribute to Mr Blake, saying he had "everything to live for".

    Miss Dixon said: "I’m completely devastated and I don’t know how I’m going to live without him.

    "He was a fantastic dad who loved spending time with them. Our son keeps asking when his daddy is coming home.

    "I need justice for Jarvin. I need to know who did this and why."

    South Yorkshire Police have launched a fresh appeal for anyone with information to contact them.

  2. Fewer West Yorkshire motorists fined over bus lane drivingpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    The number of drivers in Bradford and Leeds being fined for driving in bus lanes has fallen, according to the latest statistics.

    There's been a 43% fall in tickets in Leeds and a 33% decrease in Bradford between 2015 and 2017 - despite a national rise of 9%, RAC figures show.

    However, Simon Williams, from the RAC, says more needs to be done to make bus lanes clearer for motorists.

    "While there is clearly no defence for deliberately driving in a bus lane, we believe more can be done to make it obvious to drivers when they can and can't drive in one," says Mr Williams.

    Pumps have been put in place in part of North Yorkshire in a bid to stop properties from flooding.

    The pumps are located near County Bridge, between Norton and Malton.

    Last night, firefighters pumped out a property on Castlegate in Malton.

    More on the investigation into West Yorkshire Police's handling of a 999 call made by a woman who was later murdered by her husband.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) says Sinead Wooding called the force on 10 May 2017 after she said she had received malicious calls and texts from her husband.

    The IOPC says she was given advice by the call-handler who called her back an hour later to make sure she was safe and well.

    An officer was also sent to Ms Wooding's house the next day, however she wasn't there and didn't pick up calls.

    Two days later they returned again but were told by her husband Akshar Ali that she again wasn't there and "regularly went missing for days at a time".

    Ms Wooding's body was found in woodland close to Eccup Reservoir on 14 May.

    Ali, 27, of Scott Hall Road, Leeds, was found guilty of murdering Ms Wooding alongside Yasmin Ahmed, of Reginald Mount, Potternewton. Both were jailed for 22 years.

    An investigation into West Yorkshire Police over their handling of 999 calls made by a woman who was later murdered has found call-handlers and officers "acted appropriately".

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched an investigation after Akshar Ali and accomplice Yasmin Ahmed were found guilty of murdering Sinead Wooding in May 2017.

    It emerged in court that Ms Wooding had made a 999 call to West Yorkshire Police on 10 May, when she wanted to report malicious calls from her husband Ali.

    An IOPC statement says: "Our investigation concluded that West Yorkshire Police followed all policies and procedures appropriate to the circumstances."

    Over a million cigarettes smuggled into the country were seized at Leeds Bradford Airport by Border Force teams in the last year, the BBC's been told.

    The Border Force says it's also stopped passengers bringing in half a tonne of loose tobacco as well as other substances, including Class A drugs.

  8. Bradford man dies in cell fire at prisonpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    An inmate has been killed in a fire at a prison, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.

    The prison service said Kevin Delahunty, 40, died in a blaze at category C HMP Risley, in Warrington, Cheshire on Thursday.

    The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman confirmed it had opened an investigation into the incident.

    According to the Telegraph & Argus, Delahunty is from Bradford, West Yorkshire, and died in a cell fire.

    A 57-year-old woman is in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Leeds.

    She was crossing a road in Middleton last night when she was knocked down.

    She has serious head injuries.

    River levels on the Ouse in York are expected to peak later today as the region continues to deal with the after effects of rain over the Easter weekend.

    The Environment Agency says it's not expecting anything like the floods of Christmas 2015.

    There are eight flood warnings in place across Yorkshire - three of those are on the River Ouse in York.

    Ryan lives near the River Foss, where the barrier was lowered yesterday.

    He says he feels confident his house will be OK.

    Fire crews in North Yorkshire were called out overnight to pump out a property on Castlegate in Malton.

    The rising water was causing a problem with the electrics in the area.

    The government should not rule out continued membership of the European Economic Area (EEA) after Brexit, a committee of MPs has said.

    The Brexit committee said joining Norway in the European Free Trade Area (Efta) should also be an option.

    Brexit Secretary David Davis (Con, Haltemprice and Howden) has previously ruled out both options.

    The recommendation caused splits in the committee, with Tory Brexiters, led by Jacob Rees-Mogg, voting against its inclusion in their report.

  13. One man died and two seriously hurt in Ouse Bridge smashpublished at 09:31 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    Humberside Police has confirmed that one man died and two were seriously injured when a lorry loaded with a static caravan ploughed through the central reservation of a bridge on the M62 yesterday morning.

    The accident happened at 09:30 when a lorry loaded with a static caravan, travelling westbound, went through the central reservation and collided with a black Lexus travelling eastbound on Ouse Bridge.

    The driver of the car died at the scene.

    The passenger in the car suffered life-threatening injuries, while the injuries sustained by the lorry driver are serious, but not life-threatening.

    Humberside Police want to speak to any witnesses.

    A display celebrating the heroic efforts of daredevil pilots from Yorkshire who took to the skies during World War One is being shown at Leeds Museum.

    It features the story of test pilot William Rowland Ding who died when his plane crashed during a display at Oakwood on 12 May 1917.

    The pilot became something of a local celebrity during WW1 when awestruck crowds would gather to watch him fly over Roundhay Park.

    Other stories include the efforts Phillip Leslie Holmes from Chapeltown, who enlisted in 1909, and who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his part in bombing an enemy submarine in 1917.

    He was also awarded the Allied Victory Medal and the British War Medal, which is on display at the museum for the very first time.

    Other local pilots who are part of the display include Sydney Gillat, who was a member of the Royal Aero Club, where pilots trained, before he joined the Royal Flying Corps.

    The exhibition has been organised by young historians as part of commemorations for the RAF's centenary.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a 64-year-old man was assaulted at his home in Barnsley.

    The homeowner was woken after hearing a brick smash through his downstairs window at about 03:00 on Thursday, 29 March in Brierfield Close.

    After investigating the noise he was confronted by a man wearing a clown mask demanding money.

    The intruder then punched and kicked the homeowner before leaving empty-handed.

    Police say the man who broke into the property is described as about 6ft tall and of a large build.

    He was wearing a brown and grey jacket and dark jeans at the time.

    Yorkshire's Alistair Brownlee will carry the flag for England at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Australia this morning.

    Alistair, from Leeds, is the reigning Olympic and Commonwealth triathlon champion.

    He and his brother Jonny will compete tomorrow.
