    An investigation's continuing after counter-terror raids in West Yorkshire.

    Officers from the North East Counter Terror Unit raided two homes in the Savile Town area of Dewsbury yesterday morning.

    Two men, aged 52 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism.

    They've been questioned at a police station in West Yorkshire.

  3. Police appeal after Harrogate 'hit and run'published at 07:18 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    There has been another hit and run in North Yorkshire.

    Police are searching for the occupants of a car involved in an incident in Harrogate on Easter Sunday afternoon

    An 82-year-old woman needed hospital treatment for injuries to her face after being struck on Manor Drive, just off Otley Road, at around 12.30 on Easter Sunday afternoon.

    A small white hatchback was involved, which drove away before police arrived.

    In a separate accident, a man suffered serious injuries in the early hours of Easter Sunday when he was hit by a car in Ripon Market Place.

    Police traced the driver and car believed to have been involved in that incident.

  4. Jarvin Blake death - family in fresh appealpublished at 07:00 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    Four weeks on from the killing of Sheffield dad Jarvin Blake, his family are making a fresh appeal for information.

    The 22-year-old died after being stabbed in broad daylight in the Burngreave area of the city.

    Four men have been arrested but there have been no charges.

  5. Flood warnings remain in place for parts of Yorkshirepublished at 06:44 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    There are eight flood warnings across Yorkshire this morning.

    The rivers affected are parts of the River Aire at Allerton Ings, the River Derwent , the River Swale and there are three in place for parts of the River Ouse in and around York.

    The good news is that warnings for the River Calder have been lifted.

  6. M62 reopens at Ouse Bridge after fatal accidentpublished at 06:37 British Summer Time 4 April 2018

    Investigations are continuing this morning following the death of a motorist in an accident which closed the M62 in both directions yesterday.

    The motorway was closed for nearly 20 hours.

    It reopened at 05:00BST this morning.

    A lorry carrying a static caravan went through the central reservation between the junctions for Goole and Howden.

    Lane three on both sides of the motorway will remain shut until this afternoon to allow repairs to the barrier.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has teamed up with the NHS Blood and Transplant unit to provide venues in local communities to encourage people to donate blood.

    Doncaster fire station was temporarily transformed into a health screening and donation area last week.

    The initiative proved a success, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and more have been planned at the fire station on 17 April, 10 July and 3 August between 11:00 and 19:30.

    Fire engines are parked on a different part of the site during the sessions and crews are still available to attend incidents as usual, say fire chiefs.

    A grandmother who was killed after being struck by a bin lorry in Edinburgh on Good Friday has been named as 90-year-old Norah Poole, who's originally from Sheffield.

    Paying tribute, Mrs Poole's family has said: "Beryl, Mum or Gran was much loved by family and friends.

    "She lived independently to the last, taking herself out most days, making full use of her free bus pass - Yorkshire lass that she was.

    "She was always good company, enjoying simple cafe trips where she'd re-tell her stories over a cappuccino and scone. We will all miss her greatly."

  11. Bradford to reduce funding for children with special needspublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    Decision makers in Bradford have voted to go ahead with plans to cut the amount spent on helping children with special needs.

    The Labour-run council says it's had to make changes because the amount of money it gets from central government is being halved.

    The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats are both against the plans.

    Have you seen this motorbike?:

    It was stolen in Wakefield from Broadcut Low Lock in the Calder Grove area between Friday 30 March and Saturday 31 March.

    Officers say the motorbike is quite "distinctive" and an old model.

    Anyone with information about its whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

  16. M62 'wrong way' crash: Man released under investigationpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    A man arrested over the deaths of two men on the M62 in West Yorkshire has been released pending further investigation.

    The 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing a breath test.

    It comes after two men, believed to be Adam Afsar and Jason Wilby were in a car which was struck near Bradford at about 02:30 on Monday morning.

    Mr Afsar was working for Harris Pet Transport in Dewsbury, which has sent its "deepest condolences" to his family.

    With around two miles of queuing traffic, diversions have been put in place after a collision involving a lorry on the M1 between junction 43 and 44 near Rothwell.

    Traffic is now being diverted at the M1/M62 interchange.

    Drivers can take the M621, exit at junction 7 and re-join the M1 at junction 44.

  18. Cut to councillor numbers in North Yorkshire consideredpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    There could be fewer councillors in parts of North Yorkshire if plans being published today get the go-ahead.

    The independent Local Government Boundary Commission's final proposal recommends Scarborough should be represented by 46 borough councillors in future - four fewer than now.

    The commission also recommends big changes for Richmondshire too, with 24 district councillors in the future, which is 10 fewer than now.

    The proposed new arrangements must now be implemented by Parliament.

  19. Delays expected to continue on M1 near Rothwellpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 3 April 2018

    Traffic officers are working to clear an accident involving a lorry on the M1 northbound at junction 43.

    There's been a large diesel spillage along with some damage to the barrier on the bridge.

    Understandably, this could take some time to clear and Highways England estimates normal traffic isn't now expected until about 19:00, external:
