Prize money for this year's Ebor race at York's Knavesmire has gone up to a cool half-a-million pounds - with another rise on the way in 2019.
York Race Committee has announced the 75% rise, adding that prize money for next year's race is set to leap to £1m.
The race conditions will also be changed as it becomes a competition for horses aged four and upwards.
The famous race was first run in 1843 and was the Great Ebor Handicap - a shortened version of the Roman name for York, Eboracum.
It is now run on the last day of the four-day racing festival in August.

A 73-year-old man who is believed to be from Carlisle died in a collision involving two lorries on the A66 east of Penrith early this morning, police have confirmed.
A 22-year-old man from South Yorkshire is being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The road has been closed in both directions since the accident at about 05:40 at Kirkby Thore.
Police are asking witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened on Cemetery Road in Yeadon, near Leeds Bradford Airport, at about 10:30 last Thursday morning.
The 51-year-old driver of a red Renault Clio reversed out of a parking spot and struck another parked car near Leeds Bradford Airport, according to police.
The man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, but later died.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

High water levels on parts of the River Ouse in York and Naburn, the River Foss on the outskirts of York and the River Derwent near Stamford Bridge, mean homes and businesses should prepare for possible flooding.

A multi-million pound programme to improve roads in Rotherham starts today.
Rotherham council says it is investing £10m to improve roads as part of its 2020 Roads Programme.
Residents in Brinsworth will be the first to see improvements taking place in the borough, with Brinsworth Lane being resurfaced.
The resurfacing works will only affect Brinsworth Lane between the Bonet Lane mini roundabout and Poplar Drive, including the junction.

An inquest has heard the former head of the UK's anti-slavery agency had separated from his wife just months before he was found dead at his home in Barnsley.
Paul Broadbent worked at Nottinghamshire Police and South Yorkshire Police before he was appointed head of the Gangmaster and Labour Abuse Authority.
Mr Broadbent, 54, was discovered by his father-in-law last December after concerns grew about his mental health.
During the inquest Coroner Christopher Dorries, sitting at the Medico-Legal Centre in Sheffield, concluded that Mr Broadbent "took his own life and intended to do so."
In a statement Mr Broadbent's widow, Fiona Broadbent, said their lives changed forever on 27 December 2017.
She said: "The last three months have been immensely difficult attempting to come to terms with the terrible circumstances of his death and having to learn to cope with the pain of knowing we will never be able to tell him just how much he was loved.
"My priority now is to give our daughter the love and support she needs to come to terms with the loss of her father."
A Labour source says it has been agreed Dan Jarvis can stay in parliament despite an earlier ruling.
