    Members of the NASUWT teaching union are staging a one-day strike over pay, job security and workload.

    A number of schools in Belfast and Newtownabbey are affected. 

    Education Minister Peter Weir said he had made it clear the education budget was "under severe pressure" and his priority was "protecting school budgets".

    UK roads are the most congested in Europe, a study of traffic in more than 100 EU cities suggests.

    Data company Inrix monitored traffic on every road in 123 cities. Belfast came in 10th on a list of the worst congested cities in the UK.

    So what's it like for a paramedic in Northern Ireland? Jacqueline O'Neill is a paramedic in Belfast. She's been doing the job for 12 years. I accompanied her for an average day at work.

    After three hours, by midday, she's been to a road traffic accident, a fall and a suspected case of septicaemia. "I like the not-knowing what is going to happen next," she says.

    In the centre of the room where the NI ambulance staff are handling calls is a vast computer screen that shows the length of time patients are having to wait at hospital emergency departments.

    At the moment, there are 16 twelve-hour breahces at Antrim Area Hospital, one at Altnagelvin, three at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital and one at the Ulster Hospital. Just a snapshot of the pressure faced by the health service in Northern Ireland.

  19. Longest average ambulance wait times in south eastpublished at 08:41 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016

    Average ambulance waiting times are up - and in Northern Ireland, figures show that the South Eastern Trust is where you'll have the longest average waiting time for paramedics.

    Belfast has the shortest average wait at 8.32 minutes, but that's up from an average of 5.45 minutes in 2013-14.
