Pope Francis speech will take up plenty of headlines but the words of Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar were just as notable.

The Pope, who is visiting the World Meeting of Families in Ireland, also heard Mr Varadkar, a gay man, speak out against the traditional Catholic teaching on the family.

He said: “We have voted in our parliament and by referendum to modernise our laws - understanding that marriages do not always work, that women should make their own decisions, and that families come in many forms including those headed by a grandparent, lone parent or same-sex parents or parents who are divorced and remarried."
