    Earlier, a man in his 20s was killed and another in his 40s was injured after a tree fell on them in County Armagh.

    A Northern Ireland Water spokesperson said: "NI Water is aware of an incident involving employees of one of our contractors. Emergency services attended to two individuals. Sadly one of these people died at the scene."

    "NI Water is currently working closely with the Emergency Services, the Health and Safety Executive and the PSNI and will do everything possible to assist.

    "Our thoughts are with the families of those involved at this time," it added.

  7. Public transport 'delays and cancellations likely'published at 18:56 British Summer Time 19 September 2018

    Translink, Northern Ireland's bus and train operator, says travel disruption is going to continue into this evening.

    "Cross-border Enterprise trains are severely disrupted with multiple trees blocking the tracks," a Translink spokesperson said.

    "All of the other railway lines have been re-opened, but there are likely to be delays and cancellations as a result of the weather."

    The spokesperson added that bus operations teams are "making the necessary changes to bus routes where there are fallen trees or debris blocking roads".

    Dentist David Gwyer from Galbally, County Tyrone, had a lucky escape this morning after part of a tree smashed through the glass roof of his car.

    He was on his way to work in Athlone when the accident happened. He received stitches for a head wound and suffered cuts down the side of his body. His partner, Rachel Carr, said he was "very shaken".

    ESB, which oversees the power network in the Republic of Ireland, says 126,000 customers remain without power as crews work to repair faults in the network caused by Storm Ali.

    A spokesperson said power had been restored to more than 60,000 homes, farms and businesses on Wednesday.

    The areas worst hit include Cavan, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

    Storm Ali has recorded much stronger gusts than ex-hurricane Ophelia, which came to Ireland with red alerts last October.

    When Ophelia arrived, 71mph was recorded at Orlock Head near Bangor. But earlier today, 91mph was recorded in Killowen,County Down.
