  1. Cameron's speech: Laura Kuenssberg analysispublished at 13:00

    The Daily Politics

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg says David Cameron drove his Tory tanks across Labour's lawn with that speech. It's one you could have almost imagined Tony Blair making, she adds.

"This was a clever speech", Laura tells Daily Politics, although she wonders whether in time the lack of "Tory meat" in Cameron's address will be enough for the party and to dampen down leadership froth.

    Quote Message

It was effective, it was strong and it was certainly bold."

  3. Gove to Neil: You're show-boatingpublished at 12:53

    The Daily Politics

Michael Gove clashes with Daily Politics presenter Andrew Neil over his questioning on the Tories' housing record. Mr Gove accuses the presenter of "show-boating" rather than "forensically trying to get to the point".

    Quote Message

"That may be entertaining TV but it is not in the true spirit of the BBC. It's entertainment, but not information."

Andrew Neil replies: "The viewers will  decide who's show-boating Mr Gove and who's using facts", and continues with his questioning.

At the end of the interview, relations soften a bit as the two men say how much they enjoyed the exchange.

  8. Labour: Tories hurting working peoplepublished at 12:50

Labour shadow cabinet minister Jon Ashworth offers his reaction to the PM's speech. He says that for all David Cameron's "talk of making life better for people", working people are "worse off under the Tories".

    Quote Message

You can’t claim to be in the common ground of British politics when you’re cutting the tax credits working families rely on, leaving three million of them on average £1,300 a year worse off. You can’t claim to care about the housing crisis when you’ve overseen the lowest level of housebuilding in peacetime since the 1920s. And you can’t claim you care about the NHS when you’ve pushed up waiting lists, made it harder to see a GP and plunged hospitals into financial crisis."

  9. Gove defends Tories' housing recordpublished at 12:49

    The Daily Politics

Justice Secretary Michael Gove - who was name-checked by the PM in his speech - is challenged over the Tories' home ownership pledge. Asked why home ownership has fallen in recent years, Mr Gove says it's down to the impact of the 2008 financial crash. He predicts home ownership will begin to rise "in the next few years" and argues that no party is doing more to boost home building than the Conservatives.

  10. Watch: 'Generation Rent to Generation Buy'published at 12:48

The Conservatives are the party of home ownership in Britain today, the prime minister tells his party conference. He spoke of a "dramatic shift in housing policy" and affordable homes, with a pledge of moving from "Generation Rent to Generation Buy".

  12. Heseltine: PM's speech was visionary and courageouspublished at 12:44

    The Daily Politics

Reacting to the PM's speech, former Conservative cabinet minister Lord Heseltine says it was "arguably one of the most visionary speeches by a Conservative leader that I've listened to, and also the most courageous".

    Quote Message

He set out the hard realities of divisive policies and committed himself to their eradication. Most political leaders build on the softer, easier targets and the more popular part of their agenda; he didn't do that."

  13. Standing ovation for Cameronpublished at 12:38

    David and Samantha Cameron

As the PM concludes his speech, the party faithful give him a long round of applause and rise to their feet in appreciation of the leader. The music playing in the background is Fleetwood Mac's, Don't Stop.

  14. Cameron: Nothing is writtenpublished at 12:36

Summing up his speech David Cameron says he believes the 2010s can be a "defining, turnaround decade" for the UK.

"We can be that Greater Britain because we know this: nothing is written," he tells party members and activists.

He pledges no more people "dragged down or held back" and "no more children with their noses pressed to the window as they watch the world moving ahead without them".

    Quote Message

No – a country raising its sights, its people reaching new heights. A Great British take-off that leaves no-one behind. That’s our dream – to help you realise your dreams. A Greater Britain, made of greater hope, greater chances, greater security. So let’s get out there – all of us – and let’s make it happen.”

  19. Cameron: We will shut you downpublished at 12:32

David Cameron announces: "If an institution is teaching children intensively, then whatever its religion, we will, like any other school, make it register so it can be inspected."

"Be in no doubt", he adds, "if you are teaching intolerance, we will shut you down".

  20. No more 'passive tolerance', pledges PMpublished at 12:32

David Cameron says that "for too long, we’ve been so frightened of causing offence that we haven’t looked hard enough at what is going on in our communities".

"This is passive tolerance," he tells the hall and says it leads to forced marriages, female genital mutilation and a less integrated country.

    Quote Message

So let me say it right here: no more passive tolerance in Britain."
