  1. Labour MP: Corbyn behaviour extraordinarypublished at 13:44

Labour MP John Spellar criticises Jeremy Corbyn's leadership over Syria, suggesting he had agreed that discussions about the party's position would resume on Monday but then issued a statement opposing action with "no hint" he was going to do so. The MP suggests Mr Corbyn decided to go public because he was losing the argument within the shadow cabinet.

    Quote Message

"It is no good just saying 'this number of people voted for me as though this takes a trick in every discussion. These issues need to be discussed properly. This is not the way to go about behaving, to walk out of a meeting and... to try and do a lightning strike and a coup against your shadow cabinet. It is pretty extraordinary behaviour."

  2. MP: Corbyn must go if he becomes 'liability'published at 13:27

    The World at One
    BBC Radio 4

Labour MP Paul Flynn says he has told Jeremy Corbyn he will have to resign if he becomes a "liability" to the party and Mr Corbyn "understands that".

The MP tells the BBC Labour was in a "terrible mess" and the divisions seen over issues like Syria "can't go on".

However, he urges colleagues not to try and depose Mr Corbyn, saying this would cause a "rift" and possibly a split in the party.

They must rally round their leader for the time being, he says, suggesting Mr Corbyn will have take a decision about his own future closer to the next general election.

  5. 'No, of course' won't resign, says Tom Watsonpublished at 13:20

    Tom Watson

Asked whether he would resign from his position Tom Watson, deputy Labour leader replies "no of course not" adding "that situation isn't going to occur".

He says he agrees with Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn's position to vote for air strikes in Syria, adding he believes there is an "imminent terrorist threat".

He says the party will decide what to do on Monday, but adds it was "absolutely right" for Mr Corbyn "to outline his position" in a letter to Labour MPs. Although he says he was "not aware" it was going to be sent out.

He says the party is also waiting for more information from the Prime Minister around the 70,000 ground troops.

  6. 'Labour is utter, chaotic, shambolic mess'published at 12:49

    BBC News Channel

    John Woodcock

Labour MP John Woodcock says the party is in an "utter, chaotic, shambolic mess".

He believes it is "really important to answer" a call from France to join them in air strikes on Syria.

"It's certainly unusual," he says that party leader Jeremy Corbyn and the Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn have opposing views on the issue.

He adds, the "only practical solution" would be to have a free vote, as it isn't just Mr Benn who supports air strikes, but he says it is also "many people in the shadow cabinet". Equally he says there are members of the shadow cabinet who support Mr Corbyn's view.

He points out that Jeremy Corbyn as a backbencher advocated for free votes on military intervention which he set out "quite eloquently" a few years ago.

  17. Prominent Syrians' message for Cameronpublished at 11:36

    Victoria Derbyshire

A group of prominent Syrians living in the UK have written to David Cameron and MPs calling for a political push to solve the conflict.

The letter, signed by representatives of nine groups including Syria Solidarity UK and Peace and Justice in Syria, says bombing Islamic State would not defeat it but make it stronger.

It said that civilians had been driving IS out of towns but it had been impossible to sustain while they were being bombed by President Assad - and that bombing from the air would not win the support of people on the ground who wanted to defeat IS.

"The only way to defeat ISIL is by stopping the Assad regime's indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas, including areas control by moderate rebel groups. Once this happens, Syrians will be freed up to drive out ISIL themselves, as they have proved themselves capable of doing," the letter says.

"To make this happen, the UK and other countries need to get serious about the political resolution of the conflict.

"The peace talks that started a few weeks ago in Vienna offer hope to build on the agreements made two years ago in Geneva for a political transition in Syria, but we need to go beyond hope."

He says he doesn't think there is "any question about any resignations" from the Shadow Cabinet and says the yesterday's meeting which was a "good fraternal meeting".
