  1. That £350m a week figure for EU Budget contributionspublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    Reality Check

Michael Gove defends his use of the £350m a week figure for the UK's contributions to the EU.

It has been criticised by, among others, the UK Statistics Authority, because it ignores the rebate, which is deducted before any money is sent.

Mr Gove says we shouldn't count the rebate because it can be reduced.

  2. Gove defends £350m Brexit figure claimpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

Challenged over Vote Leave's claim that leaving the Eu would free up £350m a week figure, Michael Gove says he stands by the sum.

While he acknowledges some of the money comes back to the UK - including through the rebate - he adds: "That is the amount the EU controls," and argues the UK would be able to spend that money better.

  4. Gove defends immigration stancepublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

Michael Gove is challenged by a Spanish woman, who says she doesn't believe his claim that he supports immigration. That's not the message that is coming across from the Leave campaign, she adds.

The justice secretary insists he does support migration, and praises the roles of EU citizens in the UK. But he again says that the UK needs to be able to have control on the numbers.

He says uncontrolled migration impacts on British workers, citing a Bank of England report which says that for every 10% increase in immigration there is a  2% cut in wages.

  5. The EU's five presidentspublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    • Jeroen Dijsselbloem - President of the Eurogroup

    Reality Check

Michael Gove saying a fifth of cars manufactured in Germany are sold here.

Michael Gove says a fifth of cars manufactured in Germany are sold in the UK.

This seems about right - the FT says, external that about a fifth of all cars produced in Germany last year, or around 820,000 vehicles, were exported to the UK, making it the single biggest destination by volume.

  8. 'Immigration control not possible if UK stays in EU'published at 19:23 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

On to immigration now, and Michael Gove says migration is "a good thing". But he says the only way to maintain support for it and its benefits, is if there is "control" on the number of people who come here. That, he argues, is not possible as long as the UK is in the EU.

The justice secretary says there are EU criminals and terrorists who the UK cannot deport or prevent coming in to the country, "which is a real risk to our security".

He advocates an Australian-style points system which he says could be put in place if the UK leaves the EU.

    Quote Message

If we Remain in the EU we cannot place any limits or control on the numbers of people who come here from European Union countries."

    Reality Check

Michael Gove saying I think it will inevitably happen in our lifetimes unless we vote leave on 23 June.

Michael Gove says that it is not scaremongering to talk about Turkey joining the European Union.

  10. Is Vote Leave scaremongering saying Turkey will join the EU?published at 19:21 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

"Absolutely not," responds Michael Gove, who says the EU is accelerating talks to get Turkey in to the EU. He cites an FT article from this morning which says British diplomats are working on the bid, with talks to take place the day after the referendum.

He says it's official British government policy to support Turkey becoming an EU member - and that the UK is spending "millions" to this end.

Put to him that the UK has a veto, Mr Gove says it'll never be used: "It is government policy and the only way we can stop it... is if we vote to leave on June 23," he adds.

Asked when he thinks Turkey will join, he predicts it will "inevitably happen in our lifetimes" unless the UK leaves the EU.

    Reality Check

Michael Gove sayinf we'll have control of an additional £10bn to spend on our priorities

Michael Gove says the UK will have control of an additional £10bn to spend on UK priorities.

The UK will actually have control of an additional £8.4bn, but only provided the country’s finances are otherwise unaffected.

Most economists say that leaving the EU will have a negative effect on the country’s finances.

  13. Gove tells voters to ignore Remain 'scaremongering'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

Michael Gove says he had hoped the EU would acknowledge it needed to change - but he says David Cameron was unable to secure reforms from EU leaders.

He adds: "The case for leaving is an optimistic case about the potential of the British people to achieve even more."

He urges voters to ignore the "scare stories" and to "think about the potential for this country" - as he urges support for a vote to leave in next week's referendum.

    Reality Check

Michael Gove saying we will pay for the poor people of Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal

Michael Gove says we will pay for the poor people of Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal.

If any of these countries need a bail-out, the UK will not be required pay for them under an agreement with EU leaders.

In addition, the UK-EU deal from February, which will be implemented if the UK votes to stay in the EU, reinforces this and states that the UK would be reimbursed if the general EU budget is ever used for the cost of the eurozone crisis.

  16. Risky option is staying in the EU - Govepublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

"If we vote to Remain what we will be doing is signing up for a riskier future," argues Michael Gove. He says the UK will have to pick up the bill for EU expansion, saying the UK is currently spending £2bn helping new countries to join.

  17. Gove attacks Guardian over story about his dad's fishing businesspublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    Michael Gove

Michael Gove ses out Leave's blueprint for Brexit - saying it would include more investment in the NHS, a reduction in VAT on fuel, and negotiating new trade deals and more investment in NHS

Mr Gove goes on to say the EU "is a jobs destroying machine", and shares a personal story as he tells the audience the Common Fisheries Policy forced his family's fishing business to close.

It is then put to him that the Guardian reports that his dad has  said the EU was not to blame. Mr Gove says a reporter from the paper rang his father and "tried to put words in to his mouth". He attacks the Guardian for trying to "belittle his suffering" to try to "serve their agenda".

  18. Extra money for the NHSpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    Reality Check

Michael Gove claimed that the Institute for Fiscal Studies had said that there would be money left over to spend on our priorities after Brexit.

The IFS got quite cross last time he said that.

  19. 'Not in EU interest to introduce trade tariffs on UK'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

An audience member says there are "so many risks" associated with staying in the EU - and says it never gets brought up in the campaign.

"You've put it brilliantly," responds Michael Gove.

Back to the issue of trade, and a small business owner say more than 50% of her trade is with the EU and seeks assurances that businesses like hers would not suffer from Brexit.

Michael Gove says free trade would continue if the UK left the EU. He says the EU sells more to the UK than vice versa so "It's not in their interests" to introduce trade tariffs.

The UK would also be in a position to create new trade deals with non-EU countries, like China and the US, which it cannot currently do as part of the EU, he adds.
