    Jeremy Corbyn

Jeremy Corbyn says the local election results provide an “impetus” on all MPs to get a Brexit deal done.

On a visit to Telford, the Labour leader was asked what he thought the local election results meant.

He said: “I think it means there’s a huge impetus on every MP – and they’ve all got that message, whether they themselves are Leave or Remain, or the people across the country – that an arrangement has to be made, a deal has to be done, Parliament has to resolve this issue.

"I think that is very, very clear and I think everyone gets that message.”

  14. Could the Greens win Brighton and Hove?published at 15:41 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

BBC South East reporter John Young says "the rumour is the optimism is all with the Green party" in Brighton.

Although the majority of wards are still left to declare, he says Greens are already telling him they could be leading the council again.

In 2011 Brighton and Hove became the first Green council in the country and the area is also home to the party's only MP, Caroline Lucas. However, the party lost control of the council in 2015.

John says Brighton's election has also been affected by national issues, with Brexit damaging the Conservatives and the anti-Semitism row impacting Labour.

  16. PM reacts to heckle at Welsh party conferencepublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

Theresa May has rejected a suggestion that the heckler at the Welsh Conservative conference calling for her resignation was repeating in public what people were thinking in private.

The prime minister said the people in the hall "gave a very clear reaction to it" and "they did not want that to be said".

As she addressed the gathering in Llangollen, former councillor Stuart Davies stood up and shouted at the PM, calling on her to resign.

    Media caption,

Jeremy Hunt: Changing leader would not help Brexit

Jeremy Hunt has said both the Conservatives and Labour have experienced a “tough time”in local elections and it was because both had “failed” to deliver on Brexit, which they promised to do at the last election.

The foreign secretary told BBC Hardtalk’s Stephen Sackur that changing leader would "not help get this difficult issue of Brexit over the line in a hung Parliament".

The elections saw many smaller parties and independent candidates gain seats.

  18. Labour needs to move on from Brexit - Thornberrypublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    Emily Thornberry

Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry says Labour needs to move on from Brexit to focus on other issues that matter to voters.

She tells the BBC: “I do fully understand why people may feel that we aren’t leading Brexit in the right way, but we’re not in a position to be able to lead.”

"It’s very hard from the sidelines of being the opposition... to try to keep pushing the government in the right direction," she adds.

However, she says the party is "doing the right thing" by "trying to keep the country together by representing both Leavers and Remainers in a democratic way".
