Michael Gove backer Nick Gibb says the fourth MPs' ballot was a "brilliant result" for the environment secretary, showing he has "momentum" in the race.

Citing a survey on the Conservative Home website, he says it is clear Tory party members want "two genuine Brexiteers" in the final run-off.

"He will make this a proper contest", Mr Gibb says, adding that Mr Gove's Brexit plan is "clear and credible".

    The World at One
    BBC Radio 4

Another former Sajid Javid backer, Stephen Crabb, says his supporters knew the fourth ballot "was going to be really challenging".

He says he has not decided whom he will back now - and also predicts that Mr Javid's former supporters will "split three different ways" in the next round.

He says he is not sure whether any tactical voting has gone on in the voting so far - but even allegations that it has done could be damaging for the party.

However, Mr Crabb cautions that there are people "talking up" their "mastery of the dark arts", and it may have happened to a lesser extent than people want to believe.
