  10. Truss: 'We've had too much limbo'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

The new International Trade Secretary Liz Truss says it’s “really important” that all cabinet ministers “have signed up to leaving the EU” on 31 October.

Speaking outside her new department, she says: “We’ve already had too much limbo.

“Businesses need certainty, the country needs certainty, we need to get on with it."

Ms Truss also says she is “delighted” with her new role, and will focus on "getting as many trade deals as we can and promoting trade and prompting British exports".

She adds: “My role is going to be making sure businesses are prepared for the export opportunities that lie ahead.”

  11. SNP: 'Worst government since Thatcher'published at 20:07 British Summer Time 24 July 2019

    Pete WishartImage source, UK Parliament

The SNP hits out at the first appointments by Boris Johnson to his government, saying it is "worse than Thatcher".

The party's shadow leader of the House, Pete Wishart, says the cabinet is "packed full of extreme Brexiteers and rabid right-wingers who want to drag us back to a bygone era".

He adds: “This is a Tory cabinet from hell, which Donald Trump or Nigel Farage would be proud of – with members that want to scrap the Barnett formula, privatise the NHS, roll-back workers’ rights, undo the welfare state, cut taxes for the rich, and even bring back the death penalty.

“Westminster is becoming more extreme and out of touch by the day, while Scotland is being ignored and our interests are being side-lined. It's no wonder that support for independence is growing and a majority want a fresh referendum."
