    Jack Warren
    BBC Local Live

I spent the night at the Eastern Region Referendum count in Chelmsford. It was my first time at such an event, and as I entered the Riverside Ice and Leisure centre it was filled with excitement, tension and the noise of ballot papers being counted.

I arrived just after midnight. News had trickled in that Nigel Farage had conceded defeat, and those supporting the Remain camp seemed quietly confident.

However, the mood swiftly changed as the first results around the East came through about 01:30 - which soon snowballed into a virtual whitewash for the Leave campaign.
