What an absolutely spectacular start to the baton relay in Moray. The RAF Sea King helicopter from Lossiemouth performed an inch-perfect rescue manoeuvre, winching the Queen's Baton down to the waiting Buckie lifeboat.

I looked on in absolute awe as it happened, with a huge schoolboy grin on my face. I was so close I could feel the force of the immense downdraft from the helicopter's rotors.

RNLI crew member Carl Cowie told me it was an "honour for the whole crew" to be part of such a dramatic section of the relay.

Tune in to BBC Reporting Scotland at 13.30 BST to see the footage in full.

  4. Baton bearer - Iain Jamiesonpublished at 09:55 British Summer Time 3 July 2014
