    She says: "We were so grateful for the opportunity given to our mum Marion Black, one of the oldest residents in the village (don't tell anyone but she will be ninety in September), to hold the beautiful baton along with her new best friend Aaron.

    "Thank the lovely policeman who allowed it."

    The baton will start its journey around Eilean Siar at Barra International Airport later this afternoon.

    The airport is the only one in the world where scheduled flights land on a beach. At high tide the runway is under water.

    A little earlier Conel tweeted, external: "A wee bit drookit at the #BatonRelay, external but that hasn't stopped the smiles. Congrats to all the baton bearers in Callander."

    It has sadly been raining for most of the relay today but that hasn't dampened the spirits of the baton bearers or the crowds who are watching.

    The baton has now left Tyndrum. It is travelling at the head of a convoy of Blue Knights, a motorcycle club whose members consist of active and retired law enforcement officers.

    Don't worry, the baton is safely strapped to the lead rider.

    Anna Mitchell sent in an email about Robert Russell, who just carried the baton in Tyndrum.

    "Our charity (Paths for All) nominated one of the baton bearers who will be walking with the baton in Tyndrum today.

    "We'd like to say a big well done to him and thanks for his brilliant work in leading Health Walks. We're delighted he's carrying the baton for walking!"

    Robert has volunteered more than 1,400 hours of his time with the Stirling Walking Network since 2005 and has led more than 460 Health Walks.

    "He leads walks for older adults in Care Homes and adults with mental health problems and dementia," said Anna Mitchell.

    "Even a serious accident when he broke his neck hasn't stopped Robert leading walks and attending publicity events! His motto is: 'If I can lend a hand I will'."

    Baton bearer Diane has been instrumental in creating and delivering sporting opportunities for children in the rural communities of Crianlarich and Tyndrum.

    In addition to volunteering her time to coach extracurricular activities, Diane recruits and coordinates parent and community volunteers for the sports clubs.

    Marion MacNeil emailed in to say: "Delighted to see the Queen's baton arriving on the Island of Barra this afternoon. Weather currently poor - rain - but thinking positively, a lot can happen in the next few hours!

    "My mum - Katie MacNeil - is taking part in the relay. The oldest member (don't tell her that!), but so deserves to represent our community due to her dedication and ongoing voluntary work and for us, for being a wonderful mum of 6 and a super gran!!

    "A proud day for our family... which is going to make me cry now. We are so humbled to have been included in this special event."

    There'll be a fair few showers around today as the baton moves between Stirlingshire to the Western Isles - some of them heavy, says BBC Weather, but some bright or sunny spells will also make an appearance.

    Temperatures typically around 13 Celsius in frequent showers, but they may rise a few degrees higher in any sunshine.
