    A pedestrian who was hit by a car on the B9005 Gight to Fyvie road in Aberdeenshire has died.

    The collision happened at about 13:55.

    The road is expected to be closed for some time and local diversions are in place.

  4. Scottish finance secretary to ask chancellor to ease tax burden on North Sea oil industrypublished at 15:16

    John Swinney is to ask George Osborne to ease the amount of tax paid by the sector, which has seen the cost of a barrel of Brent crude fall from more than $100 in January 2014 to less than $30 in January 2016.

    The move was agreed by a special gathering of the Scottish cabinet ahead of the UK government's budget in March.

    The meeting agreed that Scottish ministers would lobby to "remove barriers to exploration" and back re-skilling within the industry.

    Former British prime minister Tony Blair has said he thinks Scotland will leave the UK if there is a vote to leave the European Union.

    Speaking to French radio, Mr Blair said he hoped and expected the UK to vote to stay in Europe in a referendum to be held before the end of 2017.

    Earlier, the UK government tabled a motion in the House Commons setting out some of the rules for the referendum.

    There has been speculation Prime Minister David Cameron is preparing for a vote as soon as June if his renegotiation plans are approved by European leaders next month.

  11. Pupils at primary school rescued after flooding cuts off buildingpublished at 13:58

    Pupils at Aberfoyle Primary School in Stirling had to be rescued by firefighters and members of Trossachs Search and Rescue team. 

    The children were escorted through water that was close to a metre deep in places.

    Stirling Council said the school would be closed for the rest of the day.

  19. Police say South Bridge to remain closed between Chambers Street and Nicolson Streetpublished at 12:40

    Police in Edinburgh said the busy route would remain shut until safety tests had been carried out on a building on Nicolson Street.

    It follows an incident in which a man was injured after a chimney fell from the building and hit a bus at 09:40 this morning.

    Insp Norman Towler of Craigmillar Police Station said: “We have diversions in place along Chambers Street and anticipate this will be the case until later today.

    “We are asking the public to avoid the area if at all possible meanwhile.”

  20. Police searching for missing 74-year-old man in Fife find bodypublished at 12:33

    Police in Fife said they recovered the body of a man on the shore close to Lundin Links Golf Course at about 09:30.

    It follows an appeal for information about Buckhaven man, Alexander Cruikshank.

    Mr Cruikshank was last seen leaving an address on Eagle Road in Buckhaven at about 09:00 on Monday. Officers later recovered his blue Citroen Picasso.
