    Campaigners had hoped the Inverness control room would remain open in light of criticism levied at Police Scotland in the wake of the M9 crash.

    Emergency calls in Inverness are to be diverted to Govan by late August, with a similar move from Aberdeen by the end of October.

    Police Scotland said the changes would take place in a safe and assured way once fully approved.

    Highland Councillors have called for a review of the decision.

    The storm that brought near-record snowfall to the eastern US has brought heavy rain to parts of Scotland, with gales also forecast.

    The Met Office has issued three yellow "be aware" warnings for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, external.

    It has forecast southerly gales and also heavy rain for parts of southern, western and northern Scotland.

    The weather picture for later in the week could see high winds and cooler temperatures bringing snow.

    The overall amount of cash that local authorities are due to receive is falling despite many councils having to find more savings.

    The original deadline to accept the Scottish government's deal has been extended beyond its original deadline of last Friday.
