  3. Your views: 'England takes us in a direction that will not be good for our country'published at 09:08 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

It is time for another referendum on Scottish independence as England takes us in a direction that will not be for the good of our country and people. We want to be part of Europe - and those Scots who voted to remain in the UK will now see how shallow were the promises of 'better together'.

    Marie Cooke

I live in Scotland and the population voted before to stay with UK and they got it, so they should stop moaning and stick with the decision UK has made. Also, Nicola Sturgeon would be crazy to go for another independent vote as Europe will follow UK as they all want there countries back. I voted out.

    Thomas Anderson

    Quote Message

I'm a bit shocked to be honest, I didn't expect it to be a Leave vote. I'm mostly shocked that Scotland voted Remain and the rest voted out. If there's any good to come of this, it will be another independence referendum.

    Quote Message

Horror, basically. I would suggest it's going to be difficult. Scotland has emphatically voted to remain in. It's going to be complicated.

"We urge thoughtful and serious consideration by all parties so that we can secure the best possible continued access to the EU and other export markets on which Scotch whisky's success has been built, whilst minimising costs and complexity."

  14. Electoral Reform Society calls for constitutional convention to consider next stepspublished at 08:02 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

Rory Scothorne, who is a campaigns officer, said the UK was "clearly in uncharted political waters".

This vote poses big questions about the constitution of the UK as a political entity going forward, with the UK's nations divided. Without action now we risk descending into constitutional chaos, and it's vital that the public are involved in the discussions that lie ahead about the ramifications of this split vote.

  16. Salmond 'certain' Sturgeon will 'go forward' with manifesto commitment on second independence referendumpublished at 07:48 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

    BBC Radio Scotland

The former first minister said the SNP had stated in its manifesto that it should have the right to call for a second referendum on independence in the event of a UK-wide vote to leave the EU when there was clear support to remain in Scotland.

He told the Good Morning Scotland programme that he was certain the first minister would implement that commitment.

    Alex Salmond
    Quote Message

It means that Nicola Sturgeon has to go forward with the manifesto, which as you remember said the Scottish Parliament should have the right to call a second referendum on Scottish independence if there was a material and significant change in the circumstances, like Scotland being dragged out of the European Union against the will of the Scottish people. Now that has happened and I'm certain that Nicola will go forward on that manifesto commitment.

  18. Leave campaigners insist that referendum vote has been a "UK Decision"published at 07:34 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

However, the result has led to calls from some for a second Scottish independence referendum.

Professor Nicola McEwan, a professor of politics and international relations at the University of Edinburgh, said that while the vote was legally binding, it may not foster a feeling of solidarity among the different communities in the UK.

    Quote Message

It's clear that one of the lines coming from a number of pro Brexit speakers now has been an appeal for unity - lets unite behind this decision that the UK as a whole has taken. The probelm with that is that it is dependent on a degree of solidarity and togetherness across the UK so that that result would be accepted and I'm not convinced that that can be taken for granted. We've seen as much in the statement from the first minister.

  19. Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie is 'angry' that we've 'lost our place' in Europepublished at 07:23 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has been reacting with anger to the referendum result.

He said: "I am angry that we have lost our place in Europe. It is bad for our country and the people who live here. It means cutting our ties with our biggest economic market despite the consequences for trade, business, jobs and incomes.

"It means we are turning our back on co-operating with our closest neighbours on security, peace, the environment and workers' rights."

  20. Many Scottish newspapers print special editions to cover the referendum vote and reaction to itpublished at 07:16 British Summer Time 24 June 2016

Many of the papers are printing special editions to cover the UK-wide vote to leave the EU.

    Front pages 24 June

The Times in Scotland headlines "Brexit for Britain" over a headline showing a happy Nigel Farage, while the Herald sums up the result with a large picture of a tattered Union flag.

The Scottish Daily Mail has another picture of a smiling UKIP leader and says that "after 42 years the UK is free from the shackles of Europe" but on a black front page with a picture of Boris Johnson, the Daily Record tells its readers to "be afraid, be very afraid".
