The final result showed 17.4 million people across the UK voted "Leave" and 16.1 million people voted "Remain" in the EU membership referendum.

Humza Yousef, who is the SNP MSP for Glasgow Pollok, denied the UK Leave result would automatically trigger a second referendum on Scottish independence.
He told the Good Morning Scotland programme that the SNP's Scottish Parliament manifesto stated that a second vote was a "possibility'.

Many huge questions are raised by the EU referendum result.
In Scotland the biggest and most pressing question is whether this vote could spell the break up of the UK and hasten the day we see an independent Scotland.
Image source, PAEvery region in Scotland voted to remain but the UK-wide result means that Scotland will nonetheless be leaving the EU.
This is exactly the scenario SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon envisaged when she said that if Scotland is "dragged out of the EU against its will" that could trigger a second referendum on independence.
She is a cautious politician - more cautious than Alex Salmond, who is keen to go for indyref 2. She will not want to make any hasty decisions.
But if this EU result does produce polls showing a majority in favour of Scottish independence it may be her best chance to achieve her overriding political ambition.

In a statement delivered before the official UK vote was declared, the first minister said: "Scotland has delivered a strong, unequivocal vote to remain in the EU, and I welcome that endorsement of our European status."
She added: "The vote here makes clear that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union.
"Scotland has contributed significantly to the Remain vote across the UK. That reflects the positive campaign the SNP fought, which highlighted the gains and benefits of our EU membership, and people across Scotland have responded to that positive message."
