    Despite his young age, it seems the Green is already something of a political veteran, having been part of the successful campaign to give 16 and 17-year-olds the vote in the independence referendum.

    He was 15 when he joined the Scottish Green Party and has also served as a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, before contesting the East Dunbartonshire constituency in last May's general election.

    He gained his new role as an MSP after being top of the Green list for the West of Scotland region.

    Scottish Labour's Ken MacIntosh won a list seat in the West of Scotland region on a night when his party suffered some devastating defeats.

    With all but one of the constituency seats left to declare, and information on the list vote available for most of Scotland, the BBC's forecasting team are predicting the final outcome of the Scottish election will be:

    SNP 63

    CON 31

    LAB 24

    Green 6

    Lib Dems 5

    Thus the SNP are expected to fail to win an overall majority while the Conservatives will displace Labour as the third party in Scotland.

  12. Summary: SNP not certain of a majority but have won 'historic victory'published at 06:58 British Summer Time 6 May 2016

    SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has declared that her party has won a in the Holyrood election.

    The SNP has won 58 seats so far, but it is not certain that they will reach the 65 seats required to win a majority in the 129-seat parliament, according to election expert John Curtice.

    The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have also enjoyed success but Labour's vote has fallen.

    It looks increasingly likely that the Conservatives will finish second.

    With the regional list results starting to be declared, the SNP has won 58 seats, the Conservatives 16, Labour 11, Liberal Democrats four and Scottish Greens four.

    Ms Sturgeon held her Glasgow Southside seat with a majority of almost 10,000 votes as the SNP won all eight seats in the city - including four from Labour.

    Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale says it has been a "very bad night for the Labour party".

    Ms Dugdale says she wants to see the parliaments new powers being used because in reality, without doing so, Scotland faces another £3bn of cuts.

    She says that "no matter what" she will remain in charge of the Scottish Labour party.
