  • All 32 councils in Scotland declare their results in full

  • The SNP is the overall winning party but the Conservatives did well - gaining seats in areas where they had no previous track record

  • Every mainland council is now in "no overall control" meaning coalitions and minority rule will follow

    Highlands sees first Conservatives to be elected councillors in years

    Conservative councillors have been voted on to Highland Council for the first time in 22 years with three councillors so far being elected in wards in Inverness.

    Former SNP First Minister Alex Salmond says the SNP have high hopes of taking over Aberdeen City Council, but he says the Tory vote is strong in Aberdeenshire.

    Mr Salmond says "The Conservative vote is on the rise, but at the end of the day Scotland will be the only place where the Conservatives have been beaten."

    He says the SNP is confident that it will win more votes than any other party across Scotland.

    Mr Salmond says Glasgow is one of his parties key targets, as is Aberdeen.

    Breaking

    Clackmannanshire is the first mainland council to complete its count. The SNP has taken eight seats, the Conservatives five and Labour five. 

    The Conservatives have gained four seats on their 2012 result and Labour have lost three. The SNP have remained on eight and one independent did not retain their seat.

    BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg says the Tories are starting to make progress in Scotland in areas where they "went out with the Ark", like Midlothian and Fife.

    Ms Kuenssberg  says the SNP leader in Fife Council, councillor Neale Hanvey, has lost his seat to a Conservative.
